GTM Maintenance
« on: March 04, 2013, 07:50:09 PM »
Three questions:
1. Are there any links that are dead?
2. Are there any things that you don't use? (like the calendar, radio, arcade, or image gallery)
3. Do people really need playground? People keep getting in trouble for misbehaving on it and it has been corrupted by peoples' boredom, IMO. The actual content is already covered by the chatbox and chatterbox sections so I don't see any value in keeping it (some people like the unmoderated nature of it but it seems to be the source of many problems). I'm not dead set on sending it into the void yet but I would be happy to hear people's opinions on the matter.

1. on the wiki, the sidebar's "Gametechmods.com" and "Mods & Patches" lead to the same place.
2. the radio and image gallery are broken. and i hardly use the mp3 player/uploader, but i know that the whole uploading aspect doesnt work.
3. if you get rid of playground i might DIE.....
How you make Alarm Clock Pizza is:
Step 1: You buy an alarm clock from the store, and then you have to break it and put it in the sauce.
Step 2: Fold the sauce in 5 slices and put it in the dough.
Step 3: Paint the eggs with a pitcher of a clock showing what time you want to wake up and eat pizza for breakfast.
Step 4: Put the eggs in the dough.
Step 5: Make it flat into a round shape and draw the time you want on it.
Step 6: Put some old steel to prevent other peple from stealing it.
Step 7: Make it flat and cut into 60 slices 1 for each minute in 1 our.
Step 8: Put in the oven set the timer to 30048813.2884 seconds and put the temperature on 'Volcano' setting.
Step 9: If you think it is take to long, then get yor alarm clock and set it to now so that it will ring and you can take it out.
Step 10: Take it out uv the uvin wen it is redy and go to bed. In the morning eat pizza and also eat yor hands bi mistake.

1) I don't want to be the one to answer that
2) Most of the Gadgets aren't used, or I don't think they are. The Calender is pointless because there is a calender on the home page, the arcades could use some new games (if that's possible), everybody uses the image host, I don't think anyone uses the image gallery, people use the file host, idk about the last 3 but I don't think they're used often.
3) I don't understand why it's there. Flaming should not be allowed if pornography isn't because the site is just as likely to get complaints about hurrcyberbullying, and Flaming is the only thing that I see fit for the Playground, because no one needs useless spam.

I don't use the Image Gallery, MP3 Player/Uploader, the Radio, or the Media tab at the top; some of the smileys seem pretty useless as well e.g. the tanks. Also I think the Downloads tab and RA2 Downloads beside the Chatbox should be merged. Playground is just a less moderated Chatterbox, and that's why we love it!

1. Joe's site is dead so anything he linked from it is down.

2. Don't use any of them, big smileys aren't really needed IMO.

3. I don't care for playground... it seems like a place to just go and misbehave and it causes a lot of people to get upset/mad and perhaps ragequit (even I've been there), we really don't want that with this small community... more members the better plus it might repel new members from joining.

Playground also has the potential (if it hasn't done it already) to spill over into the main forum and effect forum relations, causing hostility from people against others.

None that I've noticed.

As a moderator I hate the playground because it creates more problems than it solves and no matter what the things that happen in there spill out to the rest of the forum. Just because sh**posting doesn't happen elsewhere (in theory) doesn't mean opinions of people don't carry over due to their actions.

However as a user the playground /can/ be funny at times.

1. Some links in the home page
2. I don't really use them. Image gallery is Good but it doesn't show the small preview pictures if the file is .png
3. In my opinion, the playground makes things only worse. I would get rid of it.

I think it was originally put there by ACAMS for forum games (stuff like Caption the Picture, or Comment on the Person Above You, as well as some RPs), but people took it as more of a 'no rules' area, presumably it's only purpose now is to keep rubbish in there and nowhere else... plus there is a reason why it is hidden by default.

To be honest everything there seemed to only get worse as time went on, until it was carpet bombed by ACAMS. It seems to have lost all point now, especially since there are probably only about 3-5 people that post there with any frequency. I doubt too many people will mourn its loss other than people who are self proclaimed 'master ruseman', but then again, they have a Skype group for most things that would be posted in Playground anyway (and I'm pretty sure most of it does get put in there).

I'm sure that the generic argument would be 'well, if you don't like it, block the board', but if everyone did that, then there would probably just be four people posting about stuff that nobody apart from them cares about, and anyone they would be trying to get to wouldn't be affected at all. And, to be fair, I don't think that most new members actually find it anyway, unless they were told about it previously, or eventually get told about it by another member.

To be honest, I don't really care whether it gets deleted or not, but it does seem rather pointless as a board now, and with the new rules that are coming, it would probably be just like Chatterbox anyway.
Yes that sequence of words I just said made perfect sense.

1. Probably. The RA2 download link was broken, but that seems to be fixed now.
2. I actually use none of those, except the arcade occasionally.
3. The drama and stupidity are what make playground fun. Hell, that's like 80% of the reason I stick around this place. People who want to get rid of it are just butthurt. If they have legitimate issue with it, they already have the option of disabling their ability to view it.
im just waiting for meganerdbomb to come along and kick things into gear.

The arcade is fun every now and again, but I think we do need more games. Everything else can go as long as that, the Image Uploader and File Hosts stay (unless they are all redirected to other places, like imgur.com)
The playground? There is no use for it nowadays.. it really is covered by Chatterbox/Off Topic. It's a load of flamebait. Guess I must be butthurt :P

I find it funny that people defending playground come in here and act childish saying we are all just butthurt... Hello that attitude is the main problem and you come here and display it in front of the rest of the forum, seems like an easy decision for Trov if you all want to act that way on the whole forum.

The whole point of playground is to keep it away from the rest of the forum, silly, and there's seriously no reason to complain when you can block yourself from seeing the playground at any time. Thus, if you get upset about the playground, it's your own fault; thus you are indeed butthurt.

You guys know that if we loose the Playground, at least half of GTM's members will disappear, right?
Sure its a train wreck, but at least it gives us something to do.
Since, you know, 90% of GTM has creator's-block when it comes to RA2(heh...)
