Meh, i'm thinking of making a Robotics Team.
My first robot will be coming on Oct. 29 ( I think )
BTW, My Combot's name is going to be Trinitrotoluene.
Here's probably what the chassis is going to be like.
HURRAH FOR THIN WHEELS!
-
That bot is gonna have some mad rake...
-
You're thinking of Combots too, correct?
Can you make your bot description a little less vague?
-
My first robot will be coming on Oct. 29 ( I think )
Any reason for that date? You're missing three major events by less than a month and combots by less than a week...
-
Well, Oct. 29 is my Birthday, and i'll be 11 by that. And my Grandpa Larry will get me my Bot by then.
I hope that Trinitrotoluene doesn't get it it Rear End handed to it.

Wait...so someone else is building the bot for you? I am already thoroughly confused.
-
I'll probaly Motivate my Dad to get me some Robot Parts.
-
More importantly, do you have any experience in what you're doing? What weight class are you going for? What is the weapon supposed to be, a flipper, lifting arm, ramming bar? Tentacle? (+1 for whoever gets the reference there.)

Hold on there, cowboy(?), what kind of robot do you want to build? What weight class? How much money are you willing to spend?
-
Am I the only one that sees an obvious troll?

It's a Flipper.

Probably an 30kg or an LW.
-
Am I the only one that sees an obvious troll?
Not trolling, just clueless.
-
Ok, so we know what kind of robot it is. Fyi, 30 kg is over weight for a LW. Is it a true flipper like Chaos2, or a misidentified lifter like Wedge of Doom? Can we see a quick parts list?
-
Hmm. 4 BaneBots PDX16 - 16:1 Gearmotors. 2 9-Volts. A Arduro Mini, Brass Armour, 4 5 Inch BattleKit Robot Wheel - 28-Tooth Sprockets and a Brass Wedge. I haven't decided what Burst Motor that i'm gonna use.
@R1885: It's a True Flipper.
-
Some thing tells me you're not really building a bot.

you know you play RA2 too much when...
Brass sucks as armor. Its too soft. Try steel
Also you don't need battlekits wheels. All you need are the Banebots hex hub wheels (http://banebots.com/c/WHB-WM-HS6) and Banebots hex hubs (http://banebots.com/c/WHB-HM-HS6)
-
Thanks for the advice!
-
Bro hint: Burst motors don't exist.
-
Tentacle? (+1 for whoever gets the reference there.)
heck yeah Army Ants (I am thinking of the right reference right sparkey?)
-
also looking over your parts list... you don't need an arduino.
and what are the two 9 volts for?
I've been using this RX (http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/__11965__OrangeRx_R610_Spektrum_DSM2_6Ch_2_4Ghz_Receiver_w_Sat_Port_.html) and this (http://www.robotmarketplace.com/products/0-SPM5500.html) transmitter for about a year now without any problems.
Since you are missing a battery to drive the bot, a lot of guys use this (http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/uh_viewItem.asp?idProduct=8853) battery and this (http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/__7028__Turnigy_Accucel_6_50W_6A_Balancer_Charger_w_accessories.html) charger.
A pair of these (http://holmeshobbies.com/product.php?productid=274&cat=0&featured=Y) esc's would work in your proposed drivetrain.
As for burst motors, they don't exist... and there is no way you would be safe to learn about pneumatics so stay away from a flipper for now.
-
I haven't decided what Burst Motor that i'm gonna use.
You seriously have to be [expletive]ing me. How can you expect to build (OK I understand someone's building it for you but still, you are likely going to have things break on you) and compete with (never mind repair) a robot when you don't even know how the robot works?
Stop. Just stop everything. Get off GTM, everything. Take a couple of years to grow up and mature. Then you can come back and actually understand that building a robot isn't as simple as in RA2, and we can all be friends.
Agreed?
-
Hey, a flipper can really be effective, i can Flip bots that don't have a Self-Righter.
-

Have fun flipping nothing then...virtually every bot these days is can either self right or is invertable, or doesn't have to worry about either because they're built to handle flippers and lifters.
I'd honestly suggest that you start out building something like an antweight or a beetleweight, you obviously don't know what you're getting yourself into.

I don't think I've ever seen Badnik this passionate... But he does present a few good points.
From what I understand, you're having someone else build your bot, not really lending a hand in the process yourself, correct?
I know nothing about IRL robotics, but it seems like common sense to overlook the building of your bot or lend a hand in building it, so you quite literally know it inside-out. Also, be realistic. If this is your first bot, a pneumatic (lol... Burst motor... u so silly) flipper will probably be a little complicated for you. Start off with a pushbot or a poker, a wedgebot or something simpler to make, so you can understand some of the basics of robotics and stuff.
You don't need to take my advice, but at least consider it.
-
Or if you still want the satisfaction of a moving weapon, surplus angle grinders make extremely ineffective but fun spark machines.
-
Although, Trinitrotoluene's flipper is Electric Powered. I'll probably make a Wedgebot first.
-

So then it would pretty much be a lifter, I doubt an electric motor would give you enough leverage to actually flip an opponent.

Just don't get yourself hurt k? They wouldn't put that warning at the end of every Robot Wars episode if it wasn't true.
Have we established if he's from the US or UK?
-
Yes, i'm from the USA. If anything is in New York, i'd go there. But unfortunately, My Dad's Patient has Died, so he can't make cash. BTW, My dad's a Male Nurse.
-
Sorry guys, by can I stop your little party for a second?
My Dad's Patient has Died, so he can't make cash.
If you guys can't see the troll, you are blind + retarded. Ignore this guy.
But I've jut been reminded that I need to finish my ant. You know, the one I started 1.5 years ago?
-

There's stuff in Pennsylvania if you can get your parents to drive for a day or so...

This is also curious.

Could you possibly answer the three questions I posted earlier?
He could be offline ya know.

Male nurses get paid crap you know.
ok fixed it no more "bad" words

:rage
I EEAM SOH ANGREEH
Naw, i'm just kidding.
Here's what my wedge is gonna look like ( In DSL )

MOAR RAZORS !!!!!!!!
that looks pretty flimsy tbh
-
Armor's Plastic 10. In real life, the bot's gonna have Poly Carbonate Armor.
Man, my wedge is going to get killed like Roadkill.

If it's truly going to look like that, It'll get shattered easily by hammer bots.
The space between the wedge and the body is like a target...

Well, the space between the wedge and the body will be allot shorter. Heck, the Wedge will be the part of it's body!
-
Then just make a chassis instead of doing that.
-

Man, my wedge is going to get killed like Roadkill.
There are ways to prevent that. Like, you know, making stronger wedges.
Anyay, I think this has already been asked ten times by now, but do you have ANY experience with building robots? Wiring, welding, any of that stuff?

First, what weight class is this? Is it still LW?
For a good wedge, you want three things: Durability, power, and traction.
Don't use polycarb as your main structure material. It is a tremendous material if used correctly, but in this case you want to use something like this: http://www.onlinemetals.com/merchant.cfm?pid=1200&step=4&showunits=inches&id=1271&top_cat=60 (http://www.onlinemetals.com/merchant.cfm?pid=1200&step=4&showunits=inches&id=1271&top_cat=60)
This is aluminum square tubing. It is a standard on many successful bots, like sewer snake and Original Sin. For a wedge plate, the best is titanium, but for your case something like this: http://www.onlinemetals.com/merchant.cfm?pid=9668&step=4&showunits=inches&id=814&top_cat=0 (http://www.onlinemetals.com/merchant.cfm?pid=9668&step=4&showunits=inches&id=814&top_cat=0)
This is chromoly steel. It's super strong if used right.
I don't know what kind of motors you want to use, and I'm pretty sure that Ampflow motors are out of your price range. Consider this motor:http://www.robotmarketplace.com/products/DCWD-D02.html
This is the Dustin motor, over volted to 36 volts it makes over two HP, and has a gear box ready to go, and is set to a good RPM. A pair of these motors will allow you to shove pretty much anyone. Use the Battlekit wheels and use a 1:1 chain. Coat the colson wheels with WD-40 to improve traction.
The other bits should be easy to figure out. This Vantec (http://www.robotmarketplace.com/products/VT-RDFR33.html) along with this radio (http://www.robotmarketplace.com/products/0-SPM5500.html) will allow you reliably control your bot. As much as the other members will recommend it, I strongly recommend you stay clear from the cheap Lipos. If you have to use cheap lipo, go with Turnigy Nano-tech. Try to use Power Edge or E-Flite. Also, please stay clear of the Hobby King chargers, go with AstroFlight 109, and get the Blinky balancer and the power supply.
WAAAAAAAAAAY to much text.

Yeah, i'm properly going to build a team and a robots.
Here's the current Pixel Mockup of F.M.
I'm probably going to get some Aluminum for the armor, not sure about the drive motors and the wheels. Any suggestions for the Batteries?
-
For starters, knowing the weightclass would be nice.

Antweight.

UK or US?
Basically, what i'm trying to get at is we need more information than that picture can provide before being able to help.

I can't even tell what it's supposed to be.

It's a Wedge.
EDIT - OHMAIGAWD I'M A MIDDLEWEIGHT :)bigparty
-
....yeah I'd suggest making a 3D model in something like sketchup.

Any suggestions for the Batteries?
Yeah.
