I know that Team Nightmare, Stephen Felk (Voltarc), Michael Mauldin (Frost Bite), and Team Raptor are still in the sport. I also want to say that Late Nite Racing (The Big B) is still an active competitor as well. Infernolab still maintains a presence on YouTube but I don't know if any of their robots are still around.

Vladmeisters sold off Vlad The Impaler II (to Dave Calkins of Robogames) and I believe Team Coolrobots is also no more as well. I think the Phrizbee team sold off their robots too. Thomas Petrucelli (Bad Attitude) passed away a few years ago.
The rumors of my death have been greatly exaggerated.

Moved to real robotics.

The STEM Tech Olympiad was promoted by Battlebots, and it got a couple of veteran heavyweights to come out of retirement (Shrederator/Brian Nave and Polar Vortex/Fuzzy Mauldin).  Mouser Mecha Catbot was also apparently going to compete but had to pull out due to medical issues (with the driver, not the bot).

Kind of a moot point to speculate though, because I don't think Battlebots will ever be back on TV like it used to.  I know some builders don't even WANT it to, due to all the licensing restrictions broadcasting companies impose.

To lack feeling is to be dead, but to act on every feeling is to be a child.

Here's what I know:

Ray Billings had a lightweight and middleweight, and still has Last Rites, Great Pumpkin, and a feather called Suitcase Nuke.
Jim Iocca built "Golem" and occasionally competes (he's also a judge and safety inspector).
The team that built Deb Bot and Matts Bammer still compete with ants and beetles.
I think Jim Smentowski still comepetes with Shazbot, and is also a judge.
Rob Farrow (of Death by Monkeys and Silverback/The Killa Gorilla) runs events in Seattle and has a bot for one of his kids.
Jerome Miles, who built Knome/Knome II had a 30 pound version of Hyperactive that went to Motorama 2014.
Al Kindle, who has been with the sport since '96 (I believe), is probably going to compete at Franklin 2014.

Don Hutson would come back too, Vice Crypt/Root Canal still exists as far as I know. He usually only comes out if there's TV cameras, from what I've seen...

In response to RFS, Brian Nave still has most his bots though I think he sold off some smaller ones. Not entirely sure. Infernolab's still around, Jason's last stint in combat robotics was driving Vlad at a ComBots event a few years back. Late Night Racing still competes with Original Sin and Big B.

Team Raptor's still around with the Pack Raptors (who currently haven't done anything but appear on crappy Disney shows) and Preda Raptor, who you wrote about back in '11.

IIRC Team Tiki competed in Seasons 4.0-5.0 with a thwackbot named Tiki Fire, and they still have Red Robot (AKA Minifridge minus the hammer) and a middleweight tirebot around.

Ray Scully (builder of Team Wetware's bots and most famous for Abbatoir) last competed in 2012 with a middleweight named Iron Man. He'd probably show up for a new BB. Team Ghetto Logic Robotics, owner of El Spooky, also last competed in 2012 with Snowball, a heavyweight. They might come back too.

Also, CM Robotics (maker of Ziggy and CycloneBot) had two robots in Season 5, one of them being the rather successful BravePart.

I'll post again if I think of more.

don hutson is probably the most photogenic builder of all time. i honestly owe a lot to him, he got me interested in the sport (well him and jonathan ridder of ziggo fame).

he did what he did to win. it was within the rules and didn't violate anything (I also consider it to be one of diesector's best, if not the best match). let's face it, everyone would've done the same thing if they were in his position.

IMO, Diesector's plow and lifter is no different than No Apologies' bizarre welded cage that it used against Son of Whyachi or all those times builders have padded their robots with wood/rubber when fighting a spinner.

T-Minus used an extended flipping arm to beat Hazard in the same season. If it goes with the rules, it's okay.
