The difference in style, I think, is more due to the nature of the regional fight than anything.

In the UK, there's generally a way to toss the opponent out of the arena to get a win. This tends to favor flippers that put a lot of forward motion into the throw.

In the US, ring outs are less common and much harder with the arena style, so flippers that focus more on flipping the opponent up and in a way that results in multiple flips works better, as that can dislodge components and result in a KO.

Yeah, the "American design" (still dont quite agree with that name) focus's on using Gravity as a weapon, also contributing the fact the Battlebox had a metal floor instead of wood like RW so tossing your opponent straight up and having them smash into the ground to dislodge stuff was the way to go.

Some of the advantadges to both are different

US Flippers
- Have very good flipper wedges
- Can throw bots high, and landing on the floor from a good height could damage the flipped bot.

UK Flippers
- Good wedged designs that can be problems for Spinners and Rammers
- Are made to straight toss robots out of the arena.

There are spinners in the UK, but they're not allowed in Roaming Robots (I think) and some other tournaments. Robo Challenge does have spinners such as 360 or LS4, but I'm not certain of the regulations.

Only event to house spinners is RoboChallenge, which have no regulation on them
