Felt like being random, and made a bot with Clouds for a chassis, in a manner similar to that of Paper Mario:

I HATE WHITNEY'S MILTANK.
Spammed X-Attacks on Joey -> Rock Smash beat Whitney's whole team effortlessly.
I dun' see what the problem is.

Also, I'm scared to death of facing Chuck. Hes the equivilent of 10 Whitney's Miltanks.
And... Well... I lack a Water-Type.

Did some more AI testing:

I've kinda' come to the conclusion that the AI system for the bots is in the game's .exe itself, which would explain why there are no files that even hint at a possible AI script anywhere in the game.
Unlike RA2, of course.

So while you can easily swap the AIs in this game for your own robots, your just going to end up with defective ones.
Also, while I'm at it, this also goes for trying to add bots, rather then simply swapping them: You can't, as that too is part of the same .exe file.
And re-saving it after one edits said .exe file, as I tried too earlier in this thread, results in the game not recognizing it's own files. Odd.

Anyway, I'm thinking I might do either a Mario or SanicSonic-based bot next, with a matching skin.

EDIT: Nice to know that two arenas use the same floor.

Personally, I like the Gold/Silver era because its rather dark at times, and makes for interesting aspects of the game.
Cinnabar Island, for example.
They say everyone escaped said volcano, but then why the heck does the music have an eerie feeling to it, like they didn't, and they just lie to you so you don't think about it? HMMMM!? WHAT HAPPENED WITH THE VOLCANO, BLAINE!?

DrillGao@25

Scorh@26

SHYGUY@21

Joey@26

I'm a little screwed, as I either need a Moon Stone(Nidoking can learn Surf) or hope my next Pokemon that I encounter is a Water-Type :/

(Image removed from quote.)

ok just what
Absolutely brilliant.

You know, people-who-post-in-this-thread, this topic is also somewhat of a showcase, in case anyone else wants to post a creation of theirs.

Alright GTM, Pitch me an idea for how I should skin this bot:

Oh, and before anyone asks, I had made the background in the botlab that aqua-ish color, for easier screenshots + Magic Wand shenanigans

You know, in Pokemon Red/Blue...
If you just rely on your starter(Squirtle for maximum easyness), you can pretty much Nuzloke the whole game with just 1 Pokemon.
Not counting HM-Slaves, of course.

Did that.
Tried editing it.
Didn't work.
Got RA2 working again with said backup.

Oh, and I decided to turn that moonbase into some kind of scrapyard:

Personally, I think it looks better this way.

I loaded up the Application file in Notepad, and I found the line of text that shows what bots are in what mode.
I'm scared to edit this, for fear of being un-able to re-set it.

though, if I did, and it works, then I will have found out how to add custom bots.

Ok, so I figured out how to export a robot, but am still unsure of how it works the whole way.
So what did I do? I decided to swap some MORE files, and see what happens:

Now this is where things becomes really interesting:
Polluted Zone's controls are WSAD for driving, Q for the Dish, then Spacebar for both harpoons at once. Other-Polluted Zone was able to operate it all just fine, and had no problems what-so-ever. GUYS, THIS GAME REQUIRES NO AI-ING.

Now here is where things get a little freaky...
Other-Polluted Zone drives around like a dumbass, and seems to be oblivious to other hazards and other robots. Seriously, it doesn't even drive like the TopKnot before-hand.
So I Swapped back the file for the original TopKnot, and it goes back to driving it just fine, like nothing happened. Me, I'm all: "Ok, wtf..." over the whole scenario, but it does become really interesting that this game actually AIs its own robots, and can control them regardless of what keys you set things to.

ROBOT ARENA ONE, Y U SUCH A BIZARRE GAME!?

Updated Tera:

Radar Dish... How shall I say this... Is a tricky part to skin if you want it to be partially invisible.
Really, you can't accurately judge the proportions with it :/

Also, If any of you are getting reverse-transparent parts, lets me know.

oh my god this is all just so AMAZING
Yet, its so easy to do.

Also, I was bored and felt like making this:
(Image removed from quote.)
Whoa, that's pretty awesome. If I can dig out my old copy of RA1, I may try doing that, meself   :approve:
I just cut, copy, and pasted things together from the existing game's Opponent's.
I didn't save over the existing ones, of course, as I don't really know how one can go about exporting/importing robots :/
Also, I could give you the .psd which has all the stuff from that image, if you have Photoshop.

I kinda' get the feeling sound files in this game might become problematic.
Then again, all of them are .wav files, so it might be a matter of file-replacing.
I dunno', I might play with them later.

Can you skin an arena in a similar way ?
I'll give you a hint, with that notepad file:
Anything black becomes transparent.

Page 2 has floating Ronald McDonald heads all over the walls.

Woah, so it's not as hard as in RA2?
DOOD, IVE BEEN COMMENTING ALL THROUGHOUT THIS THREAD ON HOW EASY IT IS!
Here, I'll give you an example~

Save this image:

As a .bmp file in your Custom Folder in Robot Arena.
Then, while its in said folder, re-name it to "Invisible_color". This way, you will always remember that it's this skin that makes things 100% transparent.
THEN open Notepad, or whatever, and copy this exact stuff into it:
Code: [Select]
ColorKeyEnable TRUE
ColorKeyValue 000000
ColorKeyPixel 1,1
All this is, is an edit of an existing game's file, except I set the ColorKeyValue to 000000, which is the hexadecimal value for black(HEX CODES ARE THE ONLY CODING BIT YOU NEED TO KNOW).
Save it as a text file in the same Custom Folder, with the same Invisible_color name as the above skin.
AND THAT'S IT.
Then just simply apply it to any weapon/chassis/wheel/Part-that-lets-you-modify-it, and you get something like this:

The chassis isn't actually gone, its simply "invisible".

You CT should be RA1 expert.
To be honest, one can easily make the kind of stuff I do. It just depends on the ideas someone has, that will generate different results.
And you don't even need to learn and/or know how to program at all. Its just a simple edit of a Text file.

Continuing with this weird Tron concept, I decided to give Tetra(Thats what I'm currently naming it) a sawblade:

Chainsaw didn't exactly work out, as the transparency on it kept becoming backwards, despite the fact its the exact same text file as the rest of the bot :/
But ehh, what can you do...

Thing the next part I'll add, might be that radar dish.

Felt like doing another Tron/Wire-frame bot:

Wireframe Chainsaws seem awesome. Might do those next.
