MikeNCR also has a bunch of videos of east coast events http://www.youtube.com/user/mikencr/

Just curious, but would this be any good for a starting platform for a smaller robot? Of course it wouldn't be an insect class, but maybe a hobbyweight?

Nope, not at all. It's PVC so you'd end up replacing pretty much everything with steel or UHMW anyways. That and it runs a sabertooth and sabertooths tend to randomly die...

The motors it comes with are really slow and underpowered for a combat robot. 250 rpm with 4.75" wheels is going to be slow.

Final drive axle rpm x wheel diameter / 336= MPH

so...

253 X 4.75 /366 = 3.2 mph

That's really really slow. My 30 is geared for about 10 mph and it is a little above average in terms of speed. If I had to guess I'd say average top speed for a 12 or 30 lb robot is 6-8 mph.

with 4" wheels you want to look for a final output around 550-900rpm

Silver sparks. Gold sparks tend to strip pretty easily.

The big advantage to lite flites is that they are light.

Dude Nightmare is done. Electric Boogaloo is the new vertical to worry about...

do you have any concept of time. most of the robots you're afraid of haven't fought in 8 years.

Battle switches suck. I ran one in Phoenix last year and it nearly killed me because it defaults to 'open' when it isn't receiving power or a signal from the receiver. This can create a very dangerous situation when you can't disable your robots weapon. On top of that, they don't like large shock loads and tend to fail in combat.

also looking over your parts list... you don't need an arduino.

and what are the two 9 volts for?

I've been using this RX and this transmitter for about a year now without any problems.

Since you are missing a battery to drive the bot, a lot of guys use this battery and this charger.

A pair of these esc's would work in your proposed drivetrain.

As for burst motors, they don't exist... and there is no way you would be safe to learn about pneumatics so stay away from a flipper for now.

Hmm. 4 BaneBots PDX16 - 16:1 Gearmotors.  2 9-Volts. A Arduro Mini, Brass Armour, 4 5 Inch BattleKit Robot Wheel - 28-Tooth Sprockets and a Brass Wedge. I haven't decided what Burst Motor that i'm gonna use.
@R1885: It's a True Flipper.

you know you play RA2 too much when...

Brass sucks as armor. Its too soft. Try steel

Also you don't need battlekits wheels. All you need are the Banebots hex hub wheels and Banebots hex hubs

My first robot will be coming on Oct. 29 ( I think )

Any reason for that date? You're missing three major events by less than a month and combots by less than a week...

I went to movies to see Madagascar 3...

Mind = Blown. It wasn't better than Ice Age 4, but not even worse. It was just plain awesome, at one point I even got few tears in my eyes. 5 stars.

one of these day's you'll graduate to PG 13 movies...

I like going to JV sporting events that no one ever goes to and heckeling the refs.

Can't you get suspended for that?

Usually i go with one other person and we are the only fans so they let us go. Last year we were ejected from a girls JV basketball game but that's it.

he uses copious amounts of completely extraneous words.

You couldnt have two bots with the proposed AI fight each other. They would both flawlessly circle eachother trying to flank but failing every time because both are programed not to show their sides and to get to the sides of the other one.

I was talking to MikeNCR on FB and then this idea happened. This is just a quick sketchup sketch to get the idea out.

I'm thinking 30lb pneumatic front hinged launcher.

HF drill drive 3" wheels, low pressure, maybe 2.5" bore ram cause I have one lying around.
