Hi guys, just been having a few conflicting thoughts.

The weight limit will stay fixed at 600kg, and I've also put the following into the first post, as a genuine heartfelt plea to every potential entrant.

To help this tournament be a true event to remember, please, consider entering a robot never seen in any other tournament, whether the robot is a CW by design or an upgraded MW/downgraded HW. When I gave a 2500kg weight limit for the House Robots, I received some amazing, unique designs. Let's do the same in the CW category :D
A nice theme is also encouraged! Skin your bot, give it some real personality, then we can make the episodes something not only RA2 fans will enjoy, but Robot Combat fans in general, and show the entire community how great GTM is.
Thank you so much, let's make this tournament a real special occasion! <3

General Support / Beginner's Guide To: Installing Mods
« on: September 29, 2016, 06:13:02 PM »
Greetings! Quick tutorial which may come in handy for future new members. If you are a future new member, hello!

First, to install any of these, your computer will need either WinRAR or 7zip installed. Both are free and completely virus-free. My example pictures will show screenshots of 7zip, but WinRAR is similar. They extract files from compressed formats such as .7z and .rar, but can also do the .zip's your PC will already be able to do.

1) What's the Mod?
Sounds self explanatory, right?
First step is a small amount of research, and this itself comes in several steps.

i. Check if the mod you want to install is available as part of a full, ready-to-go file in the Working Game section of the Downloads. If it is, stop reading this guide and go here. This guide will teach you the steps to installing any mod found in the Working Game section.

ii. If it isn't there, find it in the AI Packs and Patches section. In the description for each pack, you should be able to find out what version of the game you need to install the pack over - for example, Starcore is installed over Stock and Robot Wars 2005 AI is installed over DSL 2.1 or 2.2. Download the AI Pack or patch.

2) Prepare your base game
As you need to install the pack over the game, you need to have the game ready to be installed over. Make sense? Good.
You can either copy and paste a version of the game if you already have a copy of what you need, or download and install a copy of the version you need using this guide.
At the end of this, you should have a full copy of whatever version of RA2 you need installed and ready to be upgraded.

3) Installing the AI Pack
Now, the AI Pack you downloaded at the start must be extracted from using 7zip or WinRAR. This image uses 7zip and Starcore v3 AI but the process is near identical for WinRAR and any other AI pack.

Extract the file to any destination - I highly recommend an empty folder prepped just for this!

Now open the folder. When you get to a folder containing a folder (among others) called AI, drag and drop all these files into the copy of RA2 you prepared earlier.

When you're asked whether to overwrite or not, click overwrite.

And there you have it! The pack should now be installed!

I've done my entire SoG team, my entries for this, and all the gtmrw prep while signups have been open. And I hardly play these days. I think everyone has had time.

There are no semi-finals, read the tournament format...

Might do awards if I feel like it

Sneak peek at a test I tried out.
Please don't be upset if I don't do this in the series, it took way longer than I'd like to admit and doesn't look great

Both nice bots! I'd contemplate going for a rear hinged flipper as it requires less of your weapon under the opponent to tip them over :)

Edited thread title. Can we see internals please?

Also Duke is not fully IRL in my opinion. Motors are too exposed and teeth don't fit the drum.

Everything on the bot has to be as realistic as possible, eg weapon axle supports and no weapon spam.

...oh

Yeah that burst really won't cut it in Heavyweights, you really need to tone down the armour!

You have over 100 spare weight there - you could always expand the chassis just slightly, downgrade the armour a bit and add another Beta motor!

536
CRAAAAAAAIG! Did you get my PM regarding a possible ring spinner design I had in mind for the tournament?

Not a relevant thread to put this in...
I did, I'll check it later.

DSL means DSL kix, not DSL plus whatever components you want to add. They're not balanced for DSL.

Tag Team is hardcoded into the exe, this is based on the targeting coding in the AI __init__.

Bit frustrating to me that you're doing CW so close to mine but hey ho.
Are you allowing BFE? I'm personally probably out if both BFE and CF are banned.
