I've included it in the rules now either way.

Yugi, can we move this to signups now please? I'd like this finalised before Sunday so everyone can get building!
People need to start getting into the habit of pm'ing me this request.

Voted yes; might not actually have time to build something new though.

That's vote 8, guess I'll say you have until sunday to suggest arenas, then, if you could please yugi, move this to signups.

Meh... I've just upped the capacity. I was just conscious that this is my first tournament hosting experience and I didn't want to bite off more than I could chew...

I still think as I'm going to be away during the main build time it would be better for spots to be reserved... Is it explicitly against the rules?
It's more case law from what I've seen GK and/or Craaig enforce before and I am keeping it that way.

Reserving spots does not ensure quality. Cherry picking entries can. In other words, if you state that you have the right to reject any robot for any reason (usually to get around loopholes), you can keep some quality control.

If you think people will rush bad entries for first-come first-served, then increase the entry limit (which you need to do, btw, as the entry minimum is 8.)

It's much better than 4 really sh** builders reserving a spot because they happen to be online before the rest.

Please do not reserve spots. All tournaments should be first-come first-served.

I actually only have that problem with Notepad++ when it comes to BFE.

All I'm saying is, one needn't download anything to be able to AI.

Considering that you intend to enter your own tournament, you need an image of your bot in the OP.

You only need regular notepad :P

As for .py's you may need other than those already provided, a search in the GTM search bar does wonders.

if retooled get's finished let's do the tourney in that mod like a week after release. There would be no meta and it would be exciting. Have multiple hosts to speed up production, dedicated AI team to get through that phase quickly, and perhaps even commentary.

Putting a tournament on one person's shoulders has been the norm but really it doesn't make sense
That's actually a really good idea. I've started to work with AS already, so I'll see what I could arrange.

In terms of having a hosting team, I'm not too sure if it's necessary. Even though one would be receiving a lot more entries than your average tournament, you're not receiving them in bulk and shouldn't be that big of a job for one man. I'm not entirely against the idea but I may need a bit of convincing to have one.

Since Roboticollins Network lost a point for its previous cancellation, it's only fitting for its 2nd chance tournament to be none other than... The 2nd Chance.

16 participants. DSL 2.2. IRL.

1 entry per person. Middleweight OR Heavyweight, it's your choice on which to send.

Cheatbot2 components allowed:

The ONLY glitch allowed, is the small chassis.

The removal of the 7-limit attachments of RA2CF is allowed.

Must have at least 2 wheel drive, and all wheel drives must have/show controlled movement.
Meaning no clusters, crawlers, scuttles, etc.

A robot CAN be upgraded, until the end of the deadline for entries.
          Unlimited amount of upgrades.
Sending a new robot is allowed, but it will replace your previous applied robot.

Match Rules

It will be a Double Elimination tournament. The Prime bracket, and the Chance bracket. The Chance bracket each round, will always have a different match drawing.
There will be a Rumble at the end of the competition.

Round 1 - Eight four-way matches. One winner from each match.
Round 2 - The four (Prime bracket) will fight in two single matches. The twelve (Chance bracket) will fight in six single matches.
Round 3 - The two (Prime bracket) will fight to remain in the Prime bracket. The eight (Chance bracket) will fight in two four-way matches. One winner from each match.
Round 4 (1) - The three (Chance bracket) will fight for a spot in the final in a three-way match. It will be the first to get 2 wins to advance. The two losers from that same match will fight in the seperate playoff.
Round 4 (2) - The Prime bracket holder will fight the winner of the Chance bracket in the final. It will be the first to get 2 wins to win.

Special Round - All robots (with or without more) fight each other, in a big rumble finale.

3 minute match, per match. No judges' decisions will be made during the tournament. Will be all based on the in-game decisions.
A judges' decision will be based on points scored, during the rumbles.
Lowest points scored, eliminates the competitor.
The Status Messages will be turned on, in case of a controversial countout.

A robot will never be disqualified for havoking. If a havok happens, the match will restart, until there is a clear winner.
The rumble, will however allow havoks - unless it eliminates a participant.

Here is a detailed breakdown for anyone confused about the main tournament brackets, with example winners:

The Arena will be "Robot Arena 2 Tournament Arena" with edited textures.

@R01 The idea is to get participation to spike in the competitive area and hope all others follow. I do see where you are coming from, though.

Thank you to everyone that has given their input on the tournament! I'll be sure to definitely flesh  out what I already have concerning the details of the tournament when it's a bit more convenient.

I was trying to quietly run around and organise what I'm about to divulge but I guess that now is the best time as any to start working with the community on this one.

Not too long ago, I started talks with the admins and mods about a GTM tournament. This would be an official tournament in which members would receive prizes for doing well. Not only that but it would also debut a tournament ranking system. I will probably detail both of these concepts in more depth in a later post when I have the time and a keyboard.

I hate to think that, due to the state of entrant apathy at the moment, that the stature of the tournament alone wouldn't revitalise interest in most builders. So, I'd like to call to action now, and possibly at a later date in its own thread, all builders in the RA2 community to get stuck back into building and really make it clear what you expect from this official tournament and what it would take for you to join, even if it's just telling me your favourite metagame, it would be really appreciated. In return, I will promise that I will do everything I can to make sure the project will go smoothly.

The RA2 league (Kill's, not GK's) hasn't been completely abandoned but Kill has expressed his interest in helping me with this project over the league. Btw, I was on the hosting team for that but Kill was always the host.

Really hope I can help the state of the forum with the influence I have.

Building Rules:
-Lightweight Stock 1.4
-No BFE/AAM/Hax Mode/etc.
-Multibots, bots that have their drive designed to break off, and SnS bots are banned
-All robots must show controlled movement via at least two powered wheels
-AI parts/140cm extender/blue snapper/etc. are allowed
-After sending your robot to me, you may update it only once, and only before signups close.
Tournament Format:
-Unlimited entries (1 bot per person)
-Arena will be the BBEANS v2 arena with hazards on
-Before each match, robots will be seeded based on how well they do in a pre-match fight. This fight will cycle every round between destroying a SFTW-esque bot, taking on two beetleweights, and surviving against a heavyweight. Here are the robots being used:
All of these kinds of matches will be in the combat arena with hazards off.
-After robots have been seeded, the ones with the lowest rankings will enter the arena first. As each robot is eliminated from a round, the robot with the next lowest seed will enter the battle.
-Robots get 3 lives for the span of the tournament
-I probably didn't do a great job of explaining how rounds will work after robots are seeded, so here is an example round:
-A robot can earn an extra life by destroying (read: delivering the final hit to the chassis of) 3 other robots in a single round.
Other:
-I can AI, but it is preferred that you do it yourself. That being said, no cheaty AIs. If I AI your bot, you may not complain unless I have made an obvious mistake.
-You will have two weeks to enter.
-I will be entering with this:
-Thrackerzod gets a reserved entry if he wishes
-Winner will be allowed two entries in my next tournament

SIGNUPS:
Lightning S.
Thrackerzod

Green - Received and AI'd
Blue - Received
Red - Problem

The original Scrapheap Challenge was pitched virtually exactly two years ago. How about that, huh?

(Image removed from quote.)

RULES
Game - DSL 2.2
Weight - Lightweight
Realistic Rule - DSL Standard
32 entrants, but will extend if there's enough interest. (See battle rules.)
Two entry robots per person per game.
Only in game glitches are allowed - eFFe Glitching, Axle Loading and Snapper Loading.
If you can't AI I will do it for you, just don't complain about it if your robot doesn't win. I haven't played RA2 for about 1000 years so I'm a bit rusty with AI stuff now.
You can't enter until I have received and accepted your robot.

BUILDING RULES
Lightweight-down class robots. Anything under 249.0kg. (I won't stop you entering an AW or a BW, but it's your funeral.)
Only in game glitches are allowed -  eFFe Glitching, Axle Loading and Snapper Loading.
No external editing at all - BFE, AAM and so on.
Robots with tracks get no weight cushion, as if anyone would use tracks for this.
No scuttlers, crawlers, walkers, or SNS robots.
Multibots are banned.
You can upgrade your robot or send a new one as much as you like until signups end.
Nothing from Cheatbot2, you know that.
You MAY NOT use more than one of the same component on your robot, this includes all batteries, wheels, weapons, everything.
This means that using 2 extenders of the same length IS NOT allowed, but using different lengths IS allowed.

BATTLE RULES
3 minute fights.
Scrapheap Challenge Arena (Official Robot Arena 2 Tournament Arena with a totally boss skin.)
Hazards on.
If a robot havoks then I will restart the match. I will keep restarting until there is a havok-free match. Fights with havoks will not be shown.
Single elimination bracket, head to head, no rumbles or melees.
Judging will be done by points scored during the match, as is custom for Standard tournaments.
