RA2: Retooled has been released. I really would like to push this as the metagame for the tournament but I want to see what people think about the proposal, so I'm putting a poll up, be sure to vote on it. However, the time is nigh to start getting this moving into signups so that the meta in Retooled is untouched as possible.

There are a fair few rules you're omitting from this thread. Be sure to check previous tournament signup threads to see what they have included and also be sure to check this out. Also, 'thwackbots' would be considered SnS if you don't enforce an IRL rule. In which case, your tournament becomes the Clash Cubes spin-off. I think you'd be better off hosting a tournament once you understand RA2 bot types and other conventions we have by lurking for a little while. Thanks for making this your first post, though. Glad you've got an interest in tournaments

 Yes, it is indeed back. This time with some more added fun, let's cut the the chase.
BASIC RULES: Ironforge Heavyweight Serge's rule of 7 break is allowed, but everything else is banned. No hax mode (honestly why would you use this when CF exists?), BFE (seriously dude, why?), and other junk. Robots need to have some sort of movement that's in a controlled manner. Arena will be the Kenzorg IGC 16 entrants (may get expanded in someway if there is indeed that many people wanting to enter) Matches will be B03, and yes, there will be a loser's bracket. I can reject your bot for any reason I deem fit.
THE MORE ODD RULES: If you remember the first Waifu Deathmatch, you probably remember the most important rule of them all, that is you must skin your robot with an image of your Waifu or Husbando (if you don't know what these words mean, just look them up, other skin your bot with your choice of insect, that works too). Remember, NO 3D WOMEN OR MEN ALLOWED. IF YOU ENTER A MULTI-BOT THE BOTS MUST BE SKINNED WITH A PAIR OF TWINS, NO EXPECTATIONS However, this time, instead of making your own chassis, similar to Clone Clash I guess you could say, you will be getting a premade chassis from your's truly in the shape of a dakimakura: (Image removed from quote.)

Alright, I wanna try hosting a tourney. Here are the rules:

Righto, time to name the tournament. I wasn't gonna keep it Official GTM Tournament forever. My current suggestions are 'GTM Official' and 'GTM Championship Series', I prefer the latter. I believe Mr AS has thought of using HAVOC as an acronym for something, in the GTM discord, although the name doesn't really seem like it would fit this tournament, imo.
Suggest your names and I'll cherry pick a select few and we may have a vote (unless there's significant support for a name suggested, already.)

I'm sorry but I believe prizes are just an added incentive to join anything. I don't want this to become the 'originality' tournament because I want this to have a competitive edge to it. I'm sorry, R01, if you feel that innovation is the thing to strive for because I believe simply having high turnout and entrants that know the unwritten rules (i.e. no crawlers, even uf they aren't banned) will be the best option for this tournament and is enough to up activity a bit more.
As for realistic/unrealistic divisions, I'm afraid I'm extremely hesitant to do that. It will all depend on the metagame whether or not it will be DSL-S or unrealistic but I am not doing IRL because the majority of builders, right now, would prefer not to build IRL.
Host points, btw, are just to represent how many tournaments you have hosted successfully once (and also the points you mentioned.)
Even though I may not think every point was in this tournament's best interest, thank you very much for you feedback, R01 and Rob.

 Courtesy of Kill343gs :) [As I reference in the post, I just want to make sure that you guys know that this project is currently just my endeavour and is not supported by Trovaner. I have had messages of support from moderators such as Kill and Thyrus but this is not a set-in-stone project and can only happen through community support and, ultimately, the thumbs up from Trov.]
It’s no secret anymore that I am trying to organise an “official” (I hate saying that) tournament for GTM. This thread is being made so I can keep everyone up-to-date with the progress I have made with it becoming an actual thing and also as a way of people to state their views on the idea and what you guys expect and want from a tournament of such a high caliber.
One thing that I am going to get out of the way first is that I have no mandate to ensure that this will actually happen. Whether or not this is recognised as the official GTM tournament will, ultimately, be decided by Trov (which it hasn’t, yet). Once this has been planned thoroughly, I will present my plan to Trov and ask him if he wants to endorse it.
In no particular order of importance, I’m going to try to flesh things out as much as I can:
So far, the ‘team’ for this is me, Mr AS, Kill and RedAce. I’m the organiser and main host. Mr AS has very kindly offered to create prizes for the tournament, once we know what the metagame is. Kill is the one making the flashy splashes and other promo material, RedAce is a backup host.
As it goes for prizes, there will be in-game components made by Mr AS and the AI pack used to host the tournament will be provided to 1st-4th place. What I want to know is, are people interested in the possible idea of creating a “Forum Champion” rank that could be provided to the winner? I just feel like this would make the whole thing feel more “official” and like it is actually affecting the forum, other than just a large sense of community involvement. Please give me ideas on what prizes/rewards you want to see from this tournament, because it will be a major factor in why people will bother entering.
As for the actual format of the tournament, I have planned it to be a double elimination tournament (with no entry limitations, obviously) with some possible side events such as rumbles (feel free to suggest anything you want to see on the side.) The tournament will also have LW, MW and HW divisions in which everyone will be allowed to enter one bot in each division. The tournament will be in a metagame voted for by the forum. However, it may be held in RA2: Retooled, as there is a less clear meta, so everyone will be at a closer level-pegging, as well as no-one will really know what the best designs or parts are. Obviously, this subject can be debated much clearer once Retooled is released. This is a subject for debate that is really integral to this project because the only reason I am attempting this is so I can spark some life into builders here and give people a reason to, at least, visit for a fortnight to a month once a year, every year. In the best case scenario, people will stick around to sharpen their skills.
On that note, I hope for the tournament to be yearly. People have suggested possibly being 6-monthly or have multiple tournaments like this running over the course of every year, but I feel like that will have a feeling of oversaturation and I want this to be grand occasion with the highest turnout possible. If this was any shorter than yearly, some people may not enter because they’ll feel as if they can just enter the next one as quick as the current one goes.
I will also be hoping to debut an official tournament ranking system along with this, but I want to keep this thread to this tournament discussion only, so I suppose this subject will be given it’s own thread in the future. The only reason I am mentioning it is because this tournament won’t keep tabs on rankings like BBEANS, but I hope it can contribute greatly to an overall tournament ranking system, instead.
As for who will be hosting it, I imagine it would be me but, in the event that I am suddenly busy during the tournament process, RedAce will pick up where I left off or, if the tournament is ready to go but I’m too busy, RedAce will become the main host. For the unlikely event that both me and RedAce will be held up, I may want one more backup host. No-one hosting this tournament will get a host point as it’s a community project which may involve multiple hosts and contributions from people who aren’t directly hosting the tournament.
On that note, I hope everyone with a negative opinion of the forum’s current state can contribute their opinion on what would make this the tournament which they will enter. Remember, you can propose any idea you like because, if given an express mandate by Trovaner once I present the finished idea to him, the prizes and rewards for this tournament can range from in-game components to what appears on the homepage of GTM, not that I’m making any promises, tho. Absolutely every voice will be heard and I hope this can be made a reality in order to revitalise some activity in the forum, even if it only happens for a month every year. Forum pessimists, don't just let mods do the fighting for you. If what I am proposing actually gets off the ground, get stuck in. I really do feel as though, with enough community support, this can keep interest in RA2 going (even if it's just one time a year.)

Hello everyone, I am a longstanding GTM member. I have been here on and off since 2010 and after a long hiatus I have spent the last few months being as active as possible throughout the forums having really rekindled my love for this game and robot combat in general. I recently read an article by Mr. AS regarding his views on the state of GTM and the fact that forum activity as a whole seems to be “reclining”. https://gametechmods.com/forums/index.php?topic=19235.msg707371#msg707371I think part of that reason is the way the game has evolved in that we all know which designs work better than others. In stock for example, we often see a slew of pop-ups and horizontal spinners enter (and win) tournaments because they are the most efficient designs. I think the community would be more driven if we all experimented a little more, hence the creation of this tournament. “Sui Generis” is Latin for “Unique” or literally translated “of its own kind” which I hope will engage people to experiment a little bit with Stock and create some truly different and one of a kind battles. Rules:
SUBMISSION DEADLINE: 1st SEPTEMBER 2016
Stock HW 1.4 Pop-ups BANNED. Sit n Spinners BANNED. Crawlers BANNED. Horizontal Spinners LIMITED*. AI Components ALLOWED. Rule of 7 Break ALLOWED. BFE, Hax Mode, AAM, Component Freedom BANNED. Cheatbot2 Components BANNED. - Except for: Flamethrower, . Robots must show controlled movement through 2 or more powered wheels.
Your bot may be updated as many times as you wish before the cutoff date, but when I return from holiday I will take note of your most recent design sent through and take that as your entry. After the 1st September, no further entries or updates will be accepted.
Ring Arena 3 minute matches Please take the time to AI your own entries. You have 2 weeks, I will put an omni on your design if you can’t AI, but I take no responsibility for poor performance.
Format:

The bot with the highest points at the end of all 6 games is crowned the victor. In the event of a tie, a final BO3 match will be played between the 2 top bots to decide the winner. My entry:
I am away from the 21st – 31st August on holiday, so recording will take place after that. As such, the cut off for entries will be 1st September 2016 so that everyone has a good 2 weeks to get their designs finalised. Depending on the interest I would initially be limiting this to 8 entries (1 bot per person, including my own), but may extend this if interest picks up.

*HS Rules:
You may have no more than 2 powered HSs on your robot. In addition, you may not attach more than 2 weapons per attachment point if using a single HS and no more than 1 weapon per attachment point if using a double HS setup. For example, a Tribar has 3 attachment points, so you can EITHER: Have 2 Tribars mounted on a separate motor, each with a single weapon on each attachment point, OR, have a single Tribar mounted on one motor with a MAXIMUM of 2 weapons stacked per attachment point (A total of 6 weapons in either case).
A Disc extender would work in the same fashion, except due to the inside attachment points I am simplifying the rule to a MAXIMUM of 4 weapons per HS mounted disc if you are using 2 discs and a MAXIMUM of 8 weapons on a single HS mounted disc, with a maximum limit of 2 HS mounted discs per robot.
I reserve the right to reject any robot who tries to be clever and get around this rule, or I feel is simply not embracing the spirit of this tournament, however, I must stress that VS, Drums, HS/VS Hybrids, Gut rippers, jugglers etc, are absolutely fine to submit, providing they comply with the above.
