Truly the world's greatest robot. Bonus status tip with list of enabled mods.

42
In the meantime, I found a nice callsite to patch component collisions.

We're talking about this trailer posted in the mess of the Unity/Steam comments, uploaded but not yet announced

Huh, okay, but it basically looks the same. Bummer.

Serge makes a mental note to develop a RAIII spiritual successor when he's bored of his current line of work.

44
Any sign of the weight categories Serge? Would be interesting to see if you could change/add them.
Might give it a quick look.

All that we need is removal of the max sphere.
This is planned for the full release.

Hm, I only just watched the trailer for the game on Steam. This looks pretty horrible! The GUI seems really unpolished, the rendering and models are pretty craptacular for 2016, and in general it looks… well, very prototypish.

Am I missing here something? Is there newer footage somewhere else?

While I could learn from the file format(GMF isn't that difficult, I'm surprised that there isn't an importer yet) it would be just too much time for me to spend into something like that. If you have an updated version or wanted to give it another go(so far there aren't any other tools that can import components into 3d model editors(would be really useful) and bot importing can have a few uses as well)) that would be a really useful thing, I can imagine spending weeks or even months without getting any good progress because I've never made something like this before and do not know other 3d model formats well at all. While it would be a new and interesting thing to learn I think that I'll just stop working on it at some point, that and there's plenty other things on the topic of game development that I wanted to do.

Sorry, this was so long ago I'm not even sure into which backups I should be looking to find this. I'm pretty sure my changes are gone forever.

Some day, someone will write a proper GMF parsing library...

... my bad. IIRC i threw this together after we found the 140cm square extender and some other stuff.

could have made it cleaner, I agree. Maybe we need a 1.5 patch with Serge's removal of the 7 limit?

I'm generally okay with incorporating the 2.0 (full) version once I release it. I guess we can coordinate this.

Who made this piece of sh**?

I decided to install RA2 when I realized that all of you will still be light years ahead with RA3 for the mere fact that you've been thinking about building concepts at all in the last decade.

Anyway, this 1.4 "patch" just dumps the freaking AI component folders into the root RA2 folder, cluttering everything up. We were doing this mod and creating preview pics for them way back in the day, pretty sure RFS might have had something that did it. but we knew how to do it without making a mess and putting folders where they should effing go.

Does it? That sounds pretty shitty, I agree.

I just use the the full game download these days. It comes pre'patch'ed properly.

I noticed that the 1.3 Patch executable is included in this 1.4 full game download. Am I supposed to run that or has it already been and it's just leftover? The Readme file still says 1.2

EDIT: actually just looked at the copy of the game I patched up myself. The readme still says 1.2 even after running the 1.3 patch so that's not a sure sign to go off of.

Just run Robot Arena 2.exe and you're all set, ignore the patcher.

General Support / Re: How to edit Ra2.cfg?
« on: May 03, 2016, 05:10:59 PM »
I figured RA2.cfg is where the game was saving game options. Has anyone else had a problem with the game not saving settings and going back to default on each launch? Windows 8.1

Where's your game? Is it in Program Files/? If so, try copying and running it from Your Documents or Desktop, you might be experiencing some side effects of Microsoft VirtualStore…

If you're looking to edit .gmf files, my best guess would be use Dummy's editor:
http://beetlebros.gametechmods.com/files/GMFCompiler_FB.zip
Instructions:
http://beetlebros.gametechmods.com/modding.htm

and the gmf viewer:
https://gametechmods.com/forums/index.php?action=downloads;sa=downfile&id=103
just open a gmf with this, and it displays your model (hitbox in green).

imo these work well, and they DO work. I've used them myself.
If you really want to use pyRA2, I'm not your man. These are just an alternative.
I want to export the models of the .gmf file, so I can open them up in 3d editors like 3ds max, but thanks for the help

I got PyRA2 to 'work' a few times, but it was pretty involved (as it was written for a pretty old version of Python), and IMVHO not worth the effort. You can probably re-create its' functionality in $YOUR_FAVOURITE_LANGUAGE using its' source as reference in an evening or two - the GMF binary format isn't that difficult to parse if you just want mesh data. You could even decompile to ASCII GMF and somehow parse that with some crappy scripting (even straight awk if you enjoy pain).

Sweet. What are your reasons for delaying the full release 'til RA3 is out?
To give myself some time to flesh things out, and for the hell of it. Mostly the latter.

Got myself a Windows box, porting the mods to SergePatcher. It's not set in stone, but I'd like to have the main configuration format be as shown, so people can en/disable mods on demand.

If I do some extra work I might be able to add toggles for the _in_ the game UI... Maybe. I'd need to extend SergePatcher too (and I've lost the source code for it!).

Xenophobic? I don't think that means what you think it means.

If the image you posted isn't discriminating against obese people (ergo, xenophobic) then I don't know what is.

When lacking arguments to make a point, fall back to unfunny xenophobic images? Oh, okay, got it.

I'm surprised the makers of RA3 even want to have anything to do with this forum.

Oh, hey, Serge came back.
How nice.
I'm only here to shitpost and release MAD HACKS YO.

It's not like I kinda missed t-the community or, or, anything, b-b-baka!~

57
it tells me that python22.dll is missing and tells me to redownload it
It seems like you haven't placed the downloaded .exe in the game folder before running it. It won't run from anywhere else but right next to the Robot Arena 2.exe file.

This bikeshedding about Steam is one of the reasons we can't have nice things.
Just do a DRM free and Steam release(and optionally allow the Steam version to run without being connected), what would be the problem in that?
I don't think you understood me. My point is that arguing about this at all (for whatever side - DRM-free, DRM-laden, opensource, soulbound, ...) is counterproductive and pointless.

59
Well thanks for the zipped version. I still can not run it and I have no idea how to bypass this
You could be more descriptive in your reports - only saying “my computer does not allow me at all to run the exe” is not helpful at all.
