I'm thinking of updating some Fear/Respect ratings some point soon. Any other Raters wanna team up (youknow, so we can check each others contributions and adjust if necessary)?

Oh hey Joe. Your VS were quite the inspiration for my contributions to the VS playing field.

Of course Crasp Drone would try and attack the only threat in the rumble. Of course. Should've seen that one coming.

Discussion / Re: A little question regarding newbies and DSL-IRL
« on: June 25, 2013, 05:30:12 PM »
I build IRL mostly now because I really like thinking about real designs. That and what 123 has already stated - DSL-S isn't fun anymore. It's gotten to where Stock always has been to me. You build a certain bot type or you suck.
Besides
1) It's a game, I can do what I want
2) I think I innovated in DSL-S enough, even if it was only 1 design, I can do what I want.

EDIT: I should make clear however that I think new builders should learn skills of the game itself, even like what components to use (eg Multis not Baseplate Anchors) and space management before delving into IRL

What's wrong with generic bots? The robot combat community is hardly booming enough to make demand for random unknown bots, it just makes much more sense to put time into bots that lots of people really want, rather than bots 1 person cares about.

Good to hear Killertron will make an appearance anyway.. I'd love to see the Series 1 look of it represented I must say :P

For the motor, I guess. It would help. But change all those Poly extenders for some variety of metal, then you won't need Flippermaker's on the Plow extender, and it'll help give a more IRL feel to the motor extender.

I thought the chassis that low because it was pretty much invertible... if you need a srimech already then
1) Shrink the chassis and make it a little taller
2) Put your weapon motors inside the chassis
3) Random drive motors unprotected outside the chassis is not IRL in any sense.
4) Perhaps use just 2 perms, making for 4 saws, then build supports connecting to both ends of your saw-drum.
5) 4 NPC-Fasts with Overkill's is MORE than enough. If you're saying it goes too fast, ditch the Overkills for Technos or something. Lighter, a little less fast.

Follow those bits and it should be a lot more compact and shouldn't have miles of messy unnecessary extender work.

So if you were making a real robot you'd allow your expensive motors to be very easy to hit to other robots AND be held on with just plastic? That's why (along with the other bits Plaz mentioned) your current setup is not IRL, in my eyes anyway.

Get rid of the front wheels and extenders and replace the astros with NPC's in the chassis and you've just made it a lot tidier and more effective.

I'm not even gonna delve right into this one, all I'm gonna say is how can the Piglet be a support when the other saws aren't even on the same level, so an axle couldn't run through them all. But, wow, that extender work. Is the worst.

You're more likely to outweapon those nasty SHW VS than helloface believes, so no, don't downgrade the armour. Most VS would just slot in under the hammers, hit it upwards then grind the chassis. Downgrading armour is very bad in this case.

Signups closed. I now need to go through all the entries and make some splashes, then voting will commence, and only then can the battles begin :D

That's now entry 13.
If I receive no other entries over the next 2 hours I will (as long as all are accepted, of course) put whoever the randomizer puts as 12 and 13 into a qualifier battle, just so it won't be 1 person left out. Any other entries and it will all go as previously planned.

I'm sure it gets under some bots, but when you're faced with a bot with a modern wedge they'll go straight under.

As for the extender work, use moar multi-extenders. Frankly you could use 2 - one at the bottom for the scoop, and 1 above it for the spikes (on the side AP's) and the flamer (top AP).

It'd weigh a lot less and be a lot less fragile.

Yeah, I even just turned the 'Leave Words Uncensored' off in profile options and we still have Shell Spinners/h-word etc so it's fixed.
