Site News and Feedback / Profile youtube links
« on: March 21, 2020, 11:15:15 AM »
Currently, the youtube link feature on profiles only works if your channel has a legacy username URL, as the link will always be youtube.com/user/*whatever's entered in the box*.  This makes it outdated, as only channels created before a certain point in time, I think that point in time is when google+ was integrated into the comments section in november 2013, as the channel I had before then had a legacy URL, but when I linked my account to google+ to keep the ability to post comments, I had a new channel created under my email display name, and that one didn't have a legacy URL automatically, so I had to make it as a custom one.  Sometime since then, legacy URLs have been made completely inaccessible to channels that didn't already have one it seems.

More info about channel URLs: https://support.google.com/youtube/answer/6180214?hl=en-GB

The channel I currently use was created in 2015, by then 500 subs was a requirement for getting a custom URL, which has since been lowered to 100 w/ other requirements.  If you get a custom URL, you will have two URLs or your channel, assuming you created it too late to get a legacy user URL: ID-based URL (youtube.com/channel/*user ID*) and customised URL (youtube.com/c/*channel name + anything else you want to add).  It would be nice to have this updated, so those whose channels do not have a legacy URL can have their channels linked on their profiles w/o having to use their sig.

Due to lack of entries, I have dropped signups for the side events and decided to enter the main competition myself.  Exhibitions will still take place, using bots from the main competition, and will be decided in a similar manner to in OW4.

- port over things from other mods (extended if drums, etc)

Some of the weapons from RWRA2 would look really nice if they were reskinned and made so they didnt have separate visual and collision meshes. Stuff like the electric boogaloo bar, decimator bar and beater, and everything from the inertia discs tab. As for balancing they could all be standardized to have the same stats as one or a couple of the currently accepted full size discs that are already in the game. This might also encourage people to switch away from the same two disc with typhoons inbetween setup that nearly every vert uses.
I'd also quite like to see the crushing claws from RW mod.

Another update.

After it threw two fights in OW4 due to its sh**ty AI, I've removed from Deep Blood the wedgelets that made it invertible, making the weapon, which is now a tribar, hit the floor as the bot bounces back the right way up.

hopefully this makes it less suicidal.png

Also upgraded after I saw its performance in a tournament is Ice Pick, which now has hinged wedgelets to help it get under opponents, but I feel they may be abit too long.

ice pick.png

Going 0-4 in OW4 due to having a Tornado wedge and unable to get under opponents, I've given Pitstop a proper wedge.  Also redone the weapon to be on medium wide R/P pistons rather than storm front-hinges.

pitstop wedge.png

New bots now.  First, Röd Vin Bultande, an eggbeater on an arm so it can go over the top of the bots and be used on opponents both at the front and rear of the bot, similar to Whiplash and Saw Loser.

bultande.png

My newest bot is Circuit Breaker, an overhead saw blade w/ a hinged dustpan which is supposed to be a hybrid between regular dustpans and the wedgelet dustpans which have been seen on some bots in OW4.  Its as wide as it is bc I originally put the arm on a Beta servo but changed it to an Overkill to free up the weight for other stuff.

I get what you're going for, but the floor skin is too contrasty and bright making it harder for people to see bots. If you wanna keep the atlas theme, maybe go with a old-school sepia map (like the one pictured below)?
(Image removed from quote.)
Well:

I think it looks great!

At the start of april I might make further refinements to the rules, depending how many entries there are by then.

Guessing the weight is what's making it more balanced.  Is it supposed to say 700HP or 700DP?

The last pack I made was coloured components intended for IRL tournaments.  This time, I have made weapon motors you can use for personal use: mini perm 132.

Quick update.

Heatwave has been completely rebuilt to have a stronger chassis, be less likely to get stuck on walls and its weapon be more powerful.  It also has a lower centre of gravity.

I've also rebuilt Night Fiend in response refinements that I made to the build rules of my tournament based of feedback received on discord, which led to Nightmare eteks being outright banned, and I initially built it for exhibitions in said tournament.  It is now an overhead spinner that is completely legal for other ppl's tournaments.

I tried building a vert that's abit closer to the meta than Deep Blood and Legendary Idol, so I built Liontamer.

liontamer.png

My newest build is a LW modular bot called Thistle.  It has two configs; a hammer and a front-hinged flipper.  I can show an image of how compact it is internally if wanted.

Final rule changes have been made, a few side events dropped, signups now open.  You have until 15 april to get your bots in.

So is the max speed entirely about how fast a spinning weapon can spin on it?

Been awhile since I last updated my showcase, so here's what I've done since then.

Changes to existing bots
I have used what ppl have said about Tohru to improve how she looks and get the version that I have submitted for a tournament.

No Hammers All Beans has had its armour skinned (the beater has since been removed)

nhab skinned.png

Ahead of its first main series fight in OW4, I made some changes to Deep Blood.  You can watch its fight against Heartbreaker in ep 8 now.

New bots
You may have seen EWoT beat the crap out of a front-hinged flipper bot called Pitstop in the highlight part of ep 7 of OW4.  A few weeks ago I built a sequel to Pitstop, although I plan to upgrade the original and still enter it into tournaments.

pitstop turbo.png

I'm hosting a tournament which has a sumo side event, so I built Fang to be the boss in that event.

Sliced Bread is a CW w/ side-sweeping saw blades, a thing I haven't seen anyone do in IRL before.

This is Navigation.  Its a rooster in robot form.

Are there still spaces open for axe attack and world championship?  I'm from UK.
If the answer's yes, I have a bot for each of those two.
