also why i suggested ballasts.

razors could work but I would attach them onto the ends of beaters probably since they will fall off fast. alternatively some users have used crushing teeth like this but in a shallower cone. can't say how well it works cause I haven't made an FS with that setup but I doubt it's worse than razors.

ballasts will help your stability, as will wider wheelbase and/or side armor.

for future reference 200kg is MW in ironforge weightclasses.

FS are hard to make good in IF just because nearly every weapon has normals and you do not want normals on an FS if you can help it. razors and beaters/hammers are the only weapons that have none, but they either suffer from low HP or low damage so it's hard to get it to work well. You can work with weird inverted cone setups for your weapons but good luck.

in other words, your weapons will do almost no damage currently unless you just ram people. I'd recommend downgrading your weapon motors to the small ztek as I really think what you've got now is overkill. using the weight to add more weapons/external armor is much more important. if you are determined to do an FS, some sort of trapping setup with plows may be worth a try to help protect you and feed opponents into your weapons.

1 carbatt and 2 duracels is also the same weight as your current battery setup and will last longer. I would also recommend 2 ballasts or so since you can add up to 4 without it counting against your weightclass. it would help you not get knocked around so much with your fast drive.

This post is for future reference (I'll change the OP with each time).

-----------------

[ Quoting of attachment images from other messages is not allowed ]

Welcome to NOVA. This is a tournament series I am starting where I host a new bracket weekly/bi-weekly/whenever. Basically a mini-centauri with 4 competitors that I can do pretty casually. Each Nova will have a different theme/meta/gimmick/etc each time. I will use this topic for all novas since I will try to do new ones fairly regularly. It's basically one big tournament that has a different competitor lineup every time.

FORMAT:
4 entries. First come first serve. PM me or contact me on Discord if you want to join.
1v1, Bo3, double elimination. 3 min.
The Trov action cam will be used.
Major havoks will have the match restarted as necessary.
North American entrants STRONGLY PREFERRED. Overseas latency IS a problem. If you are not NA but do a lag test with me and it's acceptable then you will be accepted.

-----

THIS WEEK'S RULES:
No building! BUT WHY, you ask? well-
Pick a HW from the stock AI (except EMERGENCY). This is the bot you will drive for this week :gawe:
I reserve the right to deny any entry for any reason.
The stock Octagon arena will be used for its balance among different bot types.

-----

SIGNUPS (close once I accept 4 competitors):
APPROVED
1.
2.
3.
4.
BACKUPS/CURRENTLY UNAPPROVED
...

I will not be entering this time unless we can't get a 4th entrant.

-----
For me to accept your entry, you need to send me a PM/discord message with ALL of the following files/information:
TWO IDENTICAL copies (or more) of your bot (each with differing keyboard controls, or alternatively, keyboard and gamepad). The inputs can be whatever you want as long as you pick only ONE color from this diagram for each copy:
This is so two people can potentially play on the same keyboard layout. You will likely be required to drive with both at some point.
Timezone (Pacific, EST, etc)
Times and days available to fight (be generous please). Saturday and Sunday if at all possible. I will try to work with what you got. But remember that you have the potential to fight any entrant, so the more time you have available, the better. Fights under ideal circumstances don't last more than 10 or 15 minutes, but plan for perhaps up to 45.
Parsec user ID Link to register

I will not accept your entry until ALL of the above has been submitted and the bot is approved. If you are confused, ASK ME!

These will be pretty casual tournaments. Since there's only four entrants scheduling should be pretty easy and done on the fly. Preferably be available evenings and weekends. Just don't enter if you can only play at tues at 4:15-4:30am or some crap like that. Use common sense.

Feel free to ask questions. Here we go.

Tournament Archives / NOVA 1 - Online Mini-Tournament

hey. I want to do some small online tournaments for fun that are a little easier than centauri. we will likely get another centauri at some point too.
here's what I'm thinking. I want to be able to film these in an afternoon pretty easily. A league-type setting will be best for this I think where I'll do one every week or two and i'll do a bunch hopefully so if you miss one you can enter another no big d.

I'll host a new one every week/other week/whenever.
4 competitors. first come first serve.
Same basic rules as centauri (controls, setup, etc). Probably 1v1, Bo3, double elimination, 3 min unless stated otherwise.
There will be a different theme (meta, arena, gimmick, etc) every week. I will probably decide most in advance but I will open some to votes. I think I'll open the first one to a vote just to get some suggestions and test the waters.
NA entrants only most likely again for latency reasons. I can be convinced otherwise if we do a lag test and it's acceptable.

Here's some ideas:
10 min build-off
Pick a stock ai HW
mystery meta
random arena
everyone submits a bot and you have to drive someone else's
n00b warz: pvp
flyers
walkers
winner drives the losers bot (thanks thrack)

So. suggestions? I'll probably do this next week and name a theme after i get some feedback then first come first serve. I want this to be pretty casual. My personal votes are for pick a stock bot or thrackerzod's suggestion.

Real Robotics can BEAT stock AI, first, and I see your point- it's somewhat unfair.

second- just because I'm a n00b doesn't mean this new AI pack's hard. Try it out, and send me your results.

Also, let's get out of this topic, because this showcase belongs to WenXiangLee.
it doesn't matter how good or bad it is. your constant spam and plugging yourself in someone else's showcase is bad form and pretty selfish tbh. stop doing that and reserve it to your own topics please. you can put a link in your signature to advertise your pack, but do not spam about it in others' showcases.

competent and everything but putting that much weight on one ddt will lower its damage a lot since it fires way slower. in case you didnt know.

better... try to fit the snappers inside your bot's chassis.
no the wider wedges help more than a snapper being inside that will never get hit unless hes already doomed anyway

Discussion / Re: Which is Better Iron Forge or DSL 2.2?
« on: November 08, 2018, 12:20:10 PM »
how are neither of you are right in the slightest  :dumb)

DSL 2.2 is usually asociated with the 'IRL meta' and Ironforge is associated with the 'standard meta'. They are more or less designed to work around generally agreed upon rulesets and do different things. IRL meta tries to make robots that look (not perform) like real life robots you'd see on battlebots or whatever. Standard is a slightly looser interpretation of realistic in that you are allowed to have components pass through each other as long as it could feasibly be done in real life (eg yes for a snowplow, no for a battery)

2.2 IRL is if you want to make robots that look pretty or realistic with actually using them in combat as a secondary focus to the appearance. It's basically interacive CAD. Unfortunately if you want to fight with them they usually suck cause RA2 physics do not mirror real life physics. Ironforge has much fewer parts but they are balanced around making robots that fight well within the limits of the game even if said limits may not cohere strictly to real life physics. Not as good for making a replica of your favorite robot wars bot.

2.2 - looks
Ironforge - combat
