in all honesty i'm glad this place still exists. it's still kind of a cesspool but it's always been that way. take it from someone who has been here longer than almost anyone at this point.
we actually don't have noticeably less members active than we did in 2008 when i joined, as strange as that may sound. the main difference i notice is showcase activity is a ghost town. but i'm not really sure there is a way to change that at this point. after posting tens of thousands of designs on an unfinished budget game there isn't much left that's new or shiny anymore. CF added some new flair but it's definitely a two-edged sword and unfortunately made a lot of what made RA2 fun in the first place for me and others mostly disappear. That said I'm glad people still play this even if it's not my preferred method of play. It's not my choice and it shouldn't be.

RA2 will always be a special game to me just because it let me be creative and build designs well, and gtm let me talk with others who shared the same interests. i'm not that in touch with the community anymore because most of the reasons for me to be here have gone (good building) and the people I was here with have mostly left. also i'm old and senile people don't know how to use these computers. I browse showcases and stuff but it just won't be as active as it once was. I'm glad it's been around for 15 years and that I got to be part of it.
Hope you guys can come to good conclusions for the next generation of builders. building is the most important part of GTM and tournaments count as that imo. I just hope people keep building.

Not sure if you knew but stock building devolved a lot on the whole unfortunately since the component freedom mod got released.

good point and you're totally right. nice job noticing. i'll try to fix it soon. probably will get rid of a few of the dink rivers too cause the scale is too small.



playing a lot of Dungeon of the Endless lately and it has really good art direction.
doing some messing around with pixel graphics. would be really cool if i could make a game in unity or whatever but i'm also p dumb especially with coding. i feel like the comic world would be a really cool setting for a story-driven party rpg sort of thing like a mix of Dungeon Siege and mass effect. dunno.

If you're going to make a 1WD not (let alone an uncontrollable one) you really should have 9 weapons. You could also mount the drive on the snapper rather than wasting weight on both a snapper and a larger chassis.

Welcome to NOVA. This is a tournament series I am starting where I host a new bracket weekly/bi-weekly/whenever. Basically a mini-centauri with 4 competitors that I can do pretty casually. Each Nova will have a different theme/meta/gimmick/etc.

FORMAT:
4 entries. First come first serve. PM me or contact me on Discord if you want to join.
1v1, Bo3, double elimination. 3 min.
The Trov action cam will be used.
Major havoks will have the match restarted as necessary.
North American entrants STRONGLY PREFERRED. Overseas latency IS a problem. If you are not NA but do a lag test with me and it's acceptable then you will be accepted.

THIS WEEK'S RULES:
IRONFORGE MW BUILDOFF
You have 5 TINY MINUTES TO BUILD YOUR ROBOT. Don't build it ahead of time. I will record you building via parsec :gawe:. paint and wiring won't be counted in the time limit.
I reserve the right to deny any entry for any reason.
The stock CLAWTOP arena will be used this time.

For me to accept your entry, you need to send me a PM/discord message with ALL of the following files/information:
TWO IDENTICAL copies (or more) of your bot (each with differing keyboard controls, or alternatively, keyboard and gamepad) AFTER you build it and I watch you build it. The inputs can be whatever you want as long as you pick only ONE color from this diagram for each copy:
This is so two people can potentially play on the same keyboard layout. You will likely be required to drive with both at some point.
Timezone (Pacific, EST, etc)
Times and days available to fight (be generous please). Saturday and Sunday if at all possible. I will try to work with what you got. But remember that you have the potential to fight any entrant, so the more time you have available, the better. Fights under ideal circumstances don't last more than 10 or 15 minutes, but plan for perhaps up to 45.

These will be pretty casual tournaments. Since there's only four entrants scheduling should be pretty easy and done on the fly. Preferably be available evenings and weekends. Just don't enter if you can only play at tues at 4:15-4:30am or some crap like that. Use common sense.

It probably would pass in most tournaments since there doesn't look to be much clipping unless they consider it to have no real means of movement which is kinda understandable.
Also I hate to be that guy but I would probably explain why it looks like sh** instead of just saying it without giving helpful advice.

Man when did I become such a tool

it wouldnt pass safety because it only has one wheel meaning it can't exhibit controlled movement, thats kind of a requirement
and before any of you goofs pull the meltybrain card, no, by how this robot is designed it couldn't use that mechanism.

Now this is an epic bot, however you should try sledges.

no. they need to be pole spikes because they have less friction with the ground due to collision mesh. wandering spinner (ws) physics are very complicated.

the ultimate wandering spinner (WS) is here!!

 


it has evolved beyond a simple wandering spinner (WS) however. I call it a wandering robot (WR) or just a  wanderer (W). it has no need for drive or even to spin.. it uses its opponents drive against them! as soon as they touch this robot they are IMMEDIATELY destroyed. and if it bounces off a wall first they are destroyed even quicker! it beat BBEANS5 champion Seism 13 in SECONDS.

I wonder if this technology could be adapted into a wandering sidehammer (WSH) or the wandering piston popup (WPP) categories of the wandering bot type.
possibly, but it would be a complicated endeavor. the physics are very complicated.

 


new WS type!
this wandering spinner (WS) doesn't have wheels at all. it uses the weight saved to put more weapons on and DESTROY the opponent. if your robot is in the arena vs this thing, it is basically dead.

this new bot type is what i call a wandering hammer (WH). it is designed to counter WS.

 


this lightweight wandering hammer (WH) uses betas to LAUNCH off walls for EXTREME damage to the opponent. it uses steel 10 to maximize survivability.



i will post a tutorial soon on how to make your own wandering hammer (WH).
