![]() Due to the hammer being on a spin motor, if the hammer goes further than it should (like, all the way around) it will cut through the skirt hinges, but this is unavoidable... is it still IRL? 3264

That stuff is covered in Philetbabe's really useful AI guide, which may not cover some of the new stuff, but all the basic stuff you'd need for most bots.

Nice first bots, the first one in particular looks pretty cool. I'll quickly point out some of the things you may wish to think about
- Angle extenders, as seen on your flipper, are very very weak, maybe consider using Flipper Makers instead? - Your flippers cut straight through the ramplate on the first one, this would be considered a violation of both DSL Standard and IRL rulesets. - Similarly, on the second one, your hammers cut through the wheels. - Lastly, on the second one again, you don't need that much power. In DSL 2.1, every spin motor only needs 1 ant (burst motors still need to be fully powered, so the flipper's all good) so you could get away with having 3 ants in it, but it's safer to have 4. This would free up some weight to do some other stuff! :D 3267
DSL TC Showcases / Re: Jake Williamson's showcase of demises« on: April 20, 2014, 12:53:17 PM »
Just to explain, in DSL2.1, the motor power consumption is strange in a way that means ALL spin motors ONLY need around 1 ant to power for all 3 minutes - putting an extra one in is good practice just in case. This is not the case for burst motors which need to be fully powered, but yes, your LW could get away with 3 ants, and you can always save another kg by using the larger blue control board rather than the small green one :)

Not even nearly enough weaponry. Use 1 perm and a disc rather than a drum would be my advice. Also, the NPCs will attach directly to chassis but still mainly be outside, try it to save some weight.

Would people rather the bracket be 16 with a loser's bracket or 32 with no loser's bracket?
Thinking of expanding to 32, but still using 4 way melee's, so the first round would be qualifiers and the top 2 in each battle go through to the main 16-spot tournament 3271

Never really played any specifically for kids games... My first pc games were AoE2, RCT and Frogger lol 3277
Tournament Archives / Re: Centripetal Force« on: April 17, 2014, 05:06:31 AM »The problem with having a certain heavier weapon motor for jugglers is that it's rarely ever effective, I don't think restricting the minimum motor options is a good idea. Well don't enter a juggler? :P My point of view, and this issue was raised to me by Marty, is that if it's not done, somebody will enter an FS which essentially is a rammer or something because slow motors, and win everything by, very boringly, deweaponing everything else. In my opinion it's either the restriction or remove Jugglers and Face Spinners, unless I can be convinced otherwise :P 3278

Just to jump in here, we must remember that Mechadino has no obligation to test for hours upon end to find the perfect AI combination, if the bot wasn't AIed by it's owner, then MD only has to make sure it works in an expected fashion, which it did.

Good luck doing that while staying realistic :P
I think I'll keep those guidelines for now - they're in the rules now :) |
