Okay, so far I have successfully disabled the floor flipper, but unfortunately the fridge starts on the arena floor.
Also, I think Sonny now uses Wham's RW arena with stuff disabled doesn't he?

I'm looking through the .py for you and testing some changes. No luck so far, but if I manage it and no-one else has answered yet I'll post it here.

You know I wonder what HB is doing to this mod besides just adding bots and arenas I'm talking sounds, UI, other technical stuff in the mod and are the promo shots where they have more then four bots possible in game.
Didn't someone say at one point that those promo shots were made in 3DS Max?
yeah the promo shots aren't done in RA2. It's not possible to do that kind of stuff in the game.
Then as promo shots they could be misleading right?
You could look at it that way, yes, but I think it's fair enough for HB to use 3DS Max for the promo shots as it allows for better positioning than RA2 would, and since he spends a lot of time in 3DS anyway it's probably far easier for him to use that. Besides, we have already seen some in-game footage earlier in the thread, so it's not like HB is trying to mislead you. He's just making a cool picture to promote what he's creating.

Rebuilt the flipper I posted into a spinner, as was actually the original intention of the bot. I think it works much better with the WoD arms as well: Side view: Now got a name for it too: Sarcosuchus

righto. and what's an ME? i don't know why i didn't ask. sorry for being so damned dumb. i've been out of the loop a real long time apparently.
and are there tutorials regarding these things?
thanks yall
ME is a multiextender, one of those red and black extenders you get in DSL 2.1 that can attach to the baseplate. As for tutorials, iirc there is a forum terminology page on the wiki that has some of these abbreviations listed, but I don't know how good the page actually is. You can find a bfe tutorial here: https://gametechmods.com/forums/index.php?topic=11658.0

i was wondering where some of these extenders ive never seen before came from. is there an all inclusive download for dsl 3 like there is for dsl 2? like, including the original game and running without the disk w/ everything dsl already installed? just install and go?
i didnt even realize im playing an old version. i'm all about fun with extenders, i totally want this.
There is a beta for DSL3, but as far as I know there's no ready to go download, it has to be installed over stock. Here's a link: http://beetlebros.gametechmods.com/files/DSL3beta1.rar

sort of. but those are powered. the bot i was thinking about had the hammer attached directly to the chassis and moved in a toe-crusher or overkill like manner, stopping completely and letting the bot itself flip forward to power the hammer.
also call me stupid but i dont know/remember what a bfe is
bfe = bot file editing, for things like placing components that would never fit in the bot lab, for making impossibly thin chassis etc.

Yep, but they look good. What do I name the weapon contrl and Smartzone if I'm using "Other?"
I'm having a look at the 'Other' py file, and I can see "Lefthook", "Righthook" (which I assume are the control names for two squeezing arms), "squeeze" (which I think is the smartzone), and there's also "Spin" and "Srimech". This is all just gathered from reading the py, mind you. Could be wrong, but I tried at least :P

Personally I like Windows 7 far more than 8, and RA2 runs fine on my Win7 desktop and laptop. Unless you're gonna get something with a touchscreen I'd say don't bother with 8.
What Laptop do you have?
It's a Medion Akoya P6627, but if you have a budget of £800 I'm sure you can get a better one than that.

Still not using the version with working claws that I sent ya? K.
Quite the opposite, actually. Yours is currently nothing more than a chassis, because I'm trying to work out new drive + snapper placements to make it a little more strictly IRL, and the reason I showed the original off here is because it was convenient. I'll send you the result once it's finished.

Nothing much new, but here's Scuttlebug with a really quick new shell skin: Some interesting change in colour on the front panel, not sure what's causing that, but I assume it must be something gmf related. Thanks to dezox for sending me his green reskin, which was very useful for making this.

That's a really cool design :) , shame it's hard to use. Surely a custom AI could be made for it? I can't remember what it was called (Topknot maybe?) but wasn't there a robot in DSL 2.1 that used a similar concept but as a full body spinner? Maybe someone more experienced with AI can tell me.

Mk 2 is my favourite one out of those, but only because it looks like the stalks on 2.5 would get in the way of the weapon. If they don't then that one would be my favourite, as it's certainly the best looking imo. Mandible is pretty cool looking too, especially the front claws. It would look even better with 4wd, but you probably would have to re-do the chassis. Overall, pretty nice bots :)

I really do not like the idea of putting guns on robots. Personally, I think guns would just make fights incredibly boring.

And yes, I noticed the green letters

Ok, I think it's time for a tiny rant
Since when in ra2 did you get sent to the slaughterhouse for building something fun? It quite clearly states it was an experiment, so there's no need to be assertive about it, I just thought of an idea, and built it, and thought it could be done better by other builders, as stated in my original post. Since when was it a sin to muck around and see what can be done, and tbh I'm not one of these venko types in the bot lab who takes decades, I have other things to do
[\rant mainly directed at Kurts post]
I think it's the nature of the building style. Stock is all about efficiency, so if you build something inefficient, people are going to criticise you for it, and some more harshly than others. You shouldn't let people put you off doing what you want to do, though, else you'll never have any fun. Almost everyone who commented on your bot gave you some advice to make it more effective. You can choose not to take the advice, if you don't want to, but remember that advice was posted for a good reason, to help you make your bot more effective. It's late-ish and I can't be bothered to proof-read. If I said anything that sounded like I was attacking you or whatever, it was entirely unintentional.

Samurai swords are not exactly a great weapon in stock (unfortunately), so my advice would be to use them as some sort of cool front armour, using razors for the popup weapons themselves. The spinning blades are also not going to help with the effectiveness of the design, so maybe consider using a blue snapper to have two RADs with tribars and razors on them, or something like that. You might be able to get more weight to do this if you make the chassis smaller by stacking some of the blacks (if you can face it :P). I haven't played stock in a while, so the better stock builders can probably give you some better advice.
