Make another thread if you need, or (probably preferably) you can give me a shout and I'll just do the polls in this thread

Could be some time yet - with this amount of bots to process, AI and make splashes for, you can forgive MassimoV for not being super quick between signups closing and Splashes going up.

I'm personally not sure on how IRL having the burst exposed like that is, due to bursts not actually existing in real life, but that's just me being fussy.

OR you can build something really cool and enter that rather than something pushing the boundaries :)
Also Edit: Also Craaig, out of curiosity, would you allow interchangeable weapons in this tourney?Sure, go for it :) 3068
DSL TC Showcases / Re: Naryar's DSL showcase - Crush your enemies ! See them driven before you !« on: May 18, 2014, 09:02:00 AM »the only difference between an IRL spinner and a DSL-S spinner is like a few dozen kg's of extra extenders to make it look like in real life. And you know it, hell, you're the VS specialist around there. This is what I'm saying, DSL-S spinners are the closest bot type in DSL-S to looking like they could and WOULD be built in real life (Nobody would cover the front of a real bot in tiny blunt force weapons like a DSL-S rammer, for instance - this is my issue with one of the bots in Powers of Three) you may want to counter the argument with "but irl isn't about combat efficiency". Then why do you enter IRL bots in tournaments, in what is PRIMARILY a showdown of combat efficiency (and secondary looks) ? herpderpherp Recently I've been building bots with realistic looks as the first priority, and it's paid off - I'm immensely happy with my BB9 lightweight and superheavyweight. I'm entering them just so I can see them in action - not to win. Some tryhard will beat them, that's the nature of this building style; people that won't commit to learning DSL-S trying to win tournaments. At the end of the day I know it's dull but in my opinion IRL should be about building things that WOULD be made in real life, not could. This is what the judges will be looking for in my tournament. 3069

Well, they're not made like DSL-S or they wouldn't be IRL :P
I think, if you're going to say IRL spinners are nearer DSL-S than any other bot types, then maybe it's because spinners are the most IRL looking DSL-S type? Aside from skeleton VS and floating perm axles, of course. 3070

I would actually consider trying putting the small wedge on upside down and seeing what that does for the looks. Your flipper will be straighter and more angled, I think.

Judges have been informed. Signups will open as soon as they have said they're still interested, and their entries (if they wish to enter) have been approved by the other judges, so get building.
Remember, the judges WILL BE BRUTAL. If there is ANY part of your robot that makes you even hesitate to think of a real bot that's done it, or a reason why they would do it, then don't enter it. 3073

If this is Ironbot in the way that components that fall off stay off, I don't think that's manageable at this level.

More concepts. Been trying to think of real weapon types that maybe don't get seen a lot in IRL tournaments.
![]() LW Claw. ![]() HW Shell. Not massively fond of the shell, seems dull. Anybody think of any other real weapon systems I could try? 3080
