Potentially. And I'd be asking for help covering the money, seem as though I paid for the last 2 GTM servers myself.

This is true but the old-school GTM servers were a lot of fun.

Half contemplating a new GTM server. Would there be interest? More importantly, would anybody contribute to costs to get a better server?

That massive skirt on top kills it completely.

Seems a little unnecessary to me, plus something that can move on an axle is never going to be very supportive.

Chatterbox / Re: have you been taught zenos turtle taking half step each time then youve lied« on: May 23, 2014, 06:19:07 AM »
^This is true, however the answer may end up being 2 steps depending on if the turtle took a whole step first and halved it from there or did a half step first and then continued.
A simple way to think of this is cutting a piece of paper in half, then one of those halves in half, etc, you can keep halving forever but everything would still add up to 1 sheet. 3027

MOE motors have the power of a dual perm for a whole lot less weight. :P

It's not a massive 'challenge', more of a standard for building MW popups.

Personally I think that flipper looks weird coming out of a bot so low, I doubt there's any way you could mount rams in it at that size (in real life) but that's just pickyness.
Supernova and Sabbath look cool. 3030

Personally I'd love to see Crushtacean, but if it's at least underway I won't worry too much :P

Yep, get something going fast enough with weight balanced well, then stop it and put it into reverse momentarily, and the top will swing. Whether this can be AIed is another matter. I worked on a few overhead hammer bots with axle wedges (so they'd stay static) a few years ago, were fun to drive.
I doubt T would work like this because all the weight is on one side of the bot but it is possible with experimentation (and very large wheels) 3034

Okay then.
For a concept multibot, Sgt Let is sort of amusing, although I couldn't guess what weightclass it'd fight as, not that it could fight as it is a 3 part multibot. Either way, the following advice is just from the externals. -The saws on L aren't gonna hit anything, consider a larger saw on the top of the L. -On E I'd use something rather than spike strips, they look a little odd there. -Does T work as an overhead thwack type thing? If so, that's quite cool, but the hammer extender not being central bugs my OCD. ...you said it was a serious bot and not a joke/troll, so there's my advice ![]() 3035

The thing is, if you showcase and people see something to improve, they will suggest it. It's to help you improve your design and your skills, it's why we have showcases. Throwing that back in their faces isn't something people take too kindly, which is understandable I'm sure you can agree.

Like I said, why not enter just to see your creation actually work? I mean making something that looks awesome is one thing, but seeing it in action is another, and that's what it should be about. You really think people that built stuff like Ruf Ruf Dougal or Crushtacean, although not jokebots, thought they'd win Robot Wars?

They would if they were awful judges instructed to do that. But they're not. All their decisions go through me, and I have told them to approve serious, actually IRL bots, and any rejections must be given a reason.
People keep improving the efficiency of their IRL bots to a point they're not IRL and they're only doing it to win. I make bots that I like the look of, and that I think WOULD and COULD be built IRL, and I enter them just to see them in action. Who cares who wins? IRL is almost an artbot format in my eyes. Basically, my point stands - if you don't like the premise, don't enter. I'm trying to make a tournament of truly IRL bots, for fun. |
