is uh... it a joke bot? if it's not I'm sure there are more efficient spinner setups.

ironforge BW, Bo3 in small arena. 1WD banned and flat chassis BFE allowed as long as the components could normally fit. yugitom is a bro and will host. Will send our robots shortly.

EDIT: sorry put this on hold until Red's match with badger is over. I didn't see that one.

BW? ok then
anybody up to host?

I think on all of those you need a larger base. larger chassis aren't necessarily bad in IF nary. you don't have to worry about the weaker armor of stock/DSL as much and defense is of greater value in IF anyway.
I'm currently of the belief that a wider wedge base is often superior to a narrow one, but it depends.
your first one looks solid if a bit small. I'm not sure how much action that spinner is going to get though. I honestly think your second one is way too fast and likely unstable from its size? you make your call on the last one, you might even want to go for a more clamp style approach instead of the offset hammer setup. i never really got it to work in RA2 well.

Define what you mean by "latest version" because technically that means the 1.4 patch to stock RA2 and mods are installed on top of that. Mods are not improved from other mods really, they're separate entities.

Are you asking how to install the RWRA2 mod? You just download a clean copy of RA2 1.4 from the download section of gtm and call the folder something like "Robot wars RA2" and install the mod on top of that. Do not install different RA2 mods on top of each other, install them on separate copies of the game in different folders. RA2 mods are meant to be played individually, installing them on top of each other overrides parts of some mods and makes the whole thing extremely unbalanced.

I'm pretty sure the RW mod actually has all the robots in the robot designs folder for you to import and play with from the start if that's what you're asking.

Not the robot wars one, I have fixed that issue.

I mean the 1.4, how do you get the bots onto it, when I download the game there are only about 4/6 in the robot designs folder, the DSL one have a full bot pack in the downloads section, but the 4.1 doesn't.
I mean, it's not supposed to. 1.4 is the stock unmodded version of the game. You make your own. It comes with a couple by the devs but they're pretty garbage tbh.

Cool, thanks. Does it affect other bot's AI weirdly in RA2? Why is it considered cheap or cheating?
its because RA2 AI is too dumb to rush down a flanking opponent. It will always try to face its opponent and THEN go forward instead of doing both like a human would. , but just start a match with the HW-SnS bot in the pack vs a non-SnS bot and you'll see what I mean. it basically immobilizes the opponent with stupidity, keeping them from attacking.

it's just that ironforge motors are very powerful for their weight, hence SnS are equally as powerful.
It's not just that, because then a rammer with similar drive and weapons would theoretically stand a chance (and does, if the SnS uses one of the old FBS pys) but it gets slaughtered too since it, again, can't turn and go forwards at the same time.
you never saw SnS as prevalent before meltybrain came out, because they just couldn't out-muscle many bots. No one thought they were OP then. But now since they don't have to and just flank, they're much more common.

1892
time for some quick experimenting

had these on the table for ages but never really built them.
so like SnS ok. annoying and has no real counters. if they have strong enough drive they shove away pretty much everything and have tons of weight for weapons because the only other thing they need weight for is drive. they're basically rammers that always can hit you, especially if they use the 100% broken meltrybrain py. without meltybrain they're not too unbearable but with it they're just disgusting (its honestly just as much of an AI exploit as a powerful design, if not more so).
SO
how do you beat them consistently?
iunno
but
I HAVE SOME SUPER GIMMICKY ROBOTS THAT SORT OF WORK but more not really

prepare for hilarity (note: poorly built, these are very early prototypes)

its pretty dumb when you have to make a type of but that is designed to counter a single and only a single bot type to the detriment of effectiveness against all others. this is why sns are banned for the most part in IF (and popups are on shaky ground, but thats for another time).

anyway most of my testing was done against the HW SnS that comes with the pack which is brutal but sadly nowhere near as obnoxious as many other SnS. basically it is always able to flank you since it knocks your front end to the right. so I tried to come up with some goofy designs that negate this advantage with ehhhhhhhhhhhhhh success.
they're supposed to be able to face a SnS at all times in theory or at least make it so getting knocked away isn't so punishing. I just barely beat the SnS when I drove these, which means an AI is just straight up doomed since its too dumb to turn and go forward.

something like ramjet is one of the best bets to counter this design as far as I know. But even that design simply can't turn fast enough to always face a good SnS.

anyway, be glad that the bot type is mostly banned. as I've said before, its not the design of the SnS that makes it so powerful, its meltybrain that is borderline AI cheating because it removes the other bot's ability to move (and arguably isn't possible to drive like IRL).

I think your main problem is your weapon is just way too big for your small wheelbase. When your weapon gets hit and stopped (which is very easy to do with tribars, especially huge ones), your chassis is likely to spin instead of your weapon which makes it fly all over the place. Yeah, this can also contribute to your havok problems too. a tiny chassis with its own axles spinning very fast can be a havok bomb.
imo your best bet is make a bigger base (chassis and/or supports) and smaller diameter weapon. you might want to try knives instead of picks potentially too, they have slightly higher dp

just to clarify you obviously don't have to do it, but we are curious why you seem so opposed to trying it out? Who knows, you may like it more than stock or DSL. many people play all 3.

1895
i mean it just has no wedges so it will never win against a robot that does

1896
Appendectomy's narrow frontal armor worries me. Perhaps a better solution would be to turn the existing armor sideways so it is wider than it is tall. That way, HS and shell spinners are less of a worry.
youre probably right but i slapped the thing together in about 5 mins
also a BW piston flipper is going to die to pretty much everything anyway

speaking of dying robots its time for me to update my showcase

all 3 people who have ReiAI may recognize this """""""competent""""""" robot. I really like how it looks and stuff but it's not really that great tbh. can't get under stuff at all and I REFUSE to give it wedges.
I can't be asked to do wedges i'm sorry I can't be asked
i have another version with a beefy ztek but its probably worse actually. it doesn't really need that much power and those disks on the side are actually a lifesaver vs HS. tite 5
tldr: dr. tangy with no wedges and more suck

i had fun with this lil bro. opted for a drive motor to get more torque out of the weapon and actually less speed is good on this I think. probably isn't the best design ever but I like it.
tite 5. chassis is BFEd lower which would be fine normally but for whatever reason the slim motor can't flippin fit in there even though the hitbox is PLENTY small enough to go by the looks of it i don't freakin know

i actually don't have a problem with BFE chassis height if the components can fit in there normally, I mean you sacrifice the armor value of a bigger chassis when you do it anyway. I think it's fair.

btw thanks for voting for me on the GTM poll thing, I really appreciate it guys
