Off-Topic Discussion / Re: Cats or dogs: The ultimate question
« on: September 14, 2014, 04:33:18 AM »
They're both equally awesome. I have never had a cat but I don't see why some people don't like them. Cats are never hostile with me, like some people claim they are with them.

Love how sonny just wants destruction!
Who was the robot with the claw at the very start of that video yug1tom?
No idea. I would say it's a Plunderbird clone.

Ha ha, I love it.

Also, I just looked up a video on Flow:

Is it going to be like that in-game? If it's pretty much a real life havok explosion, I wonder what it's going to be like in-game...

Definitely worth it. Your skills are truly the next generation of replica building.

Must be a picture, surely ;)

Love it. Great work, as always.

I wish people would stop talking about the legal stuff. Just butt out and be amazed at the replicas, HB will sort stuff out.

I'm sorry this hasn't been updated in a while. I have been doing some uni stuff, so I haven't been able to distribute much of my time to working on this. However, I will be back on this fairly soon and I have no wish to abandon it.

Maybe not so fantastic for my first few tries but it will be FAP worthy eventually.
Ha ha, that's golden.

A low skill temp worker in Massachusetts earns $10 - $12 per hour, and I believe this is a 40-hour project.  The AI is a mess, the old bots are on top, and thenewest ones are down at Team #80 or something like that.  They need to be moved to the front, or else you have no single player mode.  And speaking of, none of my bots are lw and few are mw, so you'd have to change their weight artificially.

You also have to go through the components menu and hide everything that should be hidden.  And, you have to make each bot is DSL 3 compatible - it's an arduous task and I've only gotten through a small sliver of them.

And finally, you have to check that each component is balanced within the context of the game, damage levels and fragility arent quite in sync.
The component balance thing has to be sorted out by the maker of the bots (you.) The sorting of files has nothing to do with component balance. I know nothing of hiding components but it should be a fairly easy task (again, not sure, you could just hide them in cheatbot2 anyway.) Besides, anyone downloading it would probably only pit the AI bots against each other, rather than make their own bots. I would have thought they would just have it for the sake of AI battles. The DSL 3 thing would be very hard but that just means only putting the DSL 2.1 ones in the pack, just leave the rest out. If the majority are on DSL 3, then make it a DSL 3 pack. I'm probably underestimating time for this but I don't think it would be that hard to clean up everything, just time consuming.

Time consuming IS a problem for me!  I work 40 hours a week and do this in my free time. If I were to include only bots from DSL 2.1, then every bot created since September 2013 is out, as are any improvemnts to bots since then.

Again, I would be ex-bloody-static if someone would volunteer, but you're as blind as Godot in a ketchup factory if you think your estimate is more accurate than mine.
Ha ha! The Godot thing got me laughing. I would never think that my estimate of time is better than yours and there is no doubt that it is a very time consuming task for someone who works full-time and I respect that. If I were you, I wouldn't want to do a chore for other's enjoyment because of a hobby. I would volunteer but I am little tied up myself. Especially because I have to do the recording and editing of Robot Wars Series 8 DSL Edition.

The effort involved isn't worth it.  My game and folders are very messy and use confusing abbreviations.  It works for me baecause I'm familiar with it and know where everyting is, but it's no good for an outsider.

You would need my entire game file just to use my bots because I make custom componets for each one.  To get my game to a presentable format would require an incredible amont of work - if I were to hire someone to do all the work, they would probably charge about $500 for the full service.  If anypne is volunteering to do it for free, I'm game, but everyone who's volunteered this far, backed out before long.
500 seems a bit of a stretch for a bit of clean-up work. Sure, it would be long and tedious, but I don't think it's $500 worth.
