*Insert cool logo here*
Rules: DSL MW (No multibots) Replica Wars arena skinned (If Badnik gives permission) otherwise RA2 tourney arena skinned with no hazards. 16 bots Single elimination, alternative choice brackets (I'll explain later) Entrants choose and reserve a DSL replica of a real life bot and then make a replica using ONLY the parts found in that replica and only up to 3 times the amount of them. e.g. use of BOB only allows 3 flamethrowers. Multi extenders (only as base extenders) and ant batteries may also be used. Reservations only last 24 hours from posting your reservation (so only choose just before you build). Standard 1 on 1 best of 3, 3min matches. No AAM/BFE/Outside modification except skinning. Realistic (Usual stuff) but all in-game glitches allowed within realism. Once sent, you can change which replica you use but only once. Minor updates within the same replica are infinite. One free havok restart per match, any more results in disqualification. I can AI but for best results, please AI yourself. (I'm not going to spend ages optimising AI for each entry)
Signups close when I get all entries or on the 3rd of July.
Alternative choice brackets: Each entrant ranks the other competitors in order of how much they would like to face them. I use this information to rank the bots. The lowest ranked bot gets its first choice of opponent, the next lowest gets its first possible choice in its list. etc. etc.... This gives more evenly matched battles. If not a full bracket, the lowest ranked bots get the byes.
- These are the rules, they cannot change at any point from now. - The following tournament is a Minor League tournament. - The ending deadline for this tournament is September 3, 2011

How does comparing a 10 year old low budget game against a modern day high budget game achieve anything?

(Image removed from quote.)
I use this with a USB adapter thingamabob to make it work with my computer.
I drive using the right stick and everything else is either the left stick or the switch on the top left.
Well mr smarty pants sure put us all to shame :P I have, in the past, used a PS2-esc controller and the F10 cam to get into the RW drivers area's to simulate as close as I could :P

Im not thinking much about time frames, It could end up a long process but I guess it would be worth it for a hall of fame
(Others feel free to chime in there idea's too, its not my Hall of Fame its the communities)
Now I played this out in my head..
- Everyone nominates up to X amount of robots..
- List is compiled, if multiple robots show up its opuut on the list once but all different reasons listed (for same reasons just pick the best worded ones)
- List is posted and non deserving nominees need to be scrapped.. I would think a poll for what should go (with unlimited options) and X amounts of votes the robot is dropped from the list..
- The final surviving list of robots is then put to a poll (select up to X amount of the options) and the top X amount end up in the hall of fame
Just my thoughts, keeps it all majority opinions but if something is forgotten someone else is bound to nominate it if it has a possible reason for being there..

Honestly all you have to do is scrap the honorable mentions and sort out the current list into 2 categories.. thats what im getting at.. your achieving nothing by restarting it, people voted that way before and they will likely vote that way again. My suggestion was one of many possible options for developing a system.. I dont care if it isnt used (just want to clear that up before you jump to that conclusion) as I had no problem with the current Hall of Fame.. But the only reason you would want to restart is to improve the system someway.. its a horrible waste of time to restart, have everyone vote the same way, restart, have everyone vote the same way and contiously find similar results.. By my understanding is you wanted 2 things improved.. 1) reasons for robots to be there.. This was partially fixed by having people add explanations to the votes, but who decided if they hold up ? a single person's opinion isnt balanced enough.. The separation is a neat idea but not essential to cure the "problem" 2) some making it in while similar yet more notable robots are missing the cut (NWB example) this hasn't been addressed in any way.. the way I see it people tend to forget various robots when trying to reel a list off the top of their head, That was the basis of my nominate/ vote idea or JD's talk of campaigning or debating would also work.. You can run it anyway you like but you made this thread on the basis the system was flawed but I cant see any significant changes so im throwing in my food for thought so we dont get a "Well that didnt work" follow up topic..

That'd be a funny challenge. Skin the same bot and find the superior painter :P
Been there, done that, I won

I figured pure ballot voting would work just as well and be simpler.
Well.. now all you have is what we already had.. Your basically restarting the list now because you don't agree with the placement of some.. I mean no offense but your really not improving the system much.. you just going to get the same results split into 2..

Why 16?
You only need 15 teams of 3 for the game to run..

Let me just stop everyone now before this trend becomes 5 pages of votes.. Its not the place right now.. lets suss out a ruleset first.. Another suggestion would to be to do away with the "honourable mentions." Having them doesn't make any sense whatsoever, since merely having them is placing more bots in the Hall. Either they're famous enough to be there, or they're not. There's no real in-between.
Second this.. Its really like "I dont want you in the hall of fame but dont wish to hurt your feelings"

You made it sound like you're building a portal gun lolololololololol
Will there be cake? General rule of thumb keep moving bursts (weapons, etc) static to avoid.. err.. undesired effects

Thats just my thoughts..
And more then 2 robots :P .
Its would have to be based of the amount of people voting on the list (not everyone needs to nominate something and if multiple people nominate the 1 robot it still counts as a single nomination)
Its just giving people options to vote on rather then tallying up what people can think off the top of their head..
