Tournament Archives / Clash Cubes Video Library
« on: August 10, 2016, 08:02:09 AM »
Since the old youtube channel that hosted all my tournaments went down many years ago I decided to start a thread uploading old content as I pull it from my archives.

So first up the final from the largest tournament I ever held (and possibly the second largest is GTM history?) at 60 Entrants, CCIV

DSL 2.1 Lightweight in the Clash Cubes Arena.

More to come :)

I wont bog this thread down too much with the terrible past but I do apologise to everyone for my unexplained departure leaving some things unfinished, A lot out of my control.. :)

Real Robotics Discussion / EB Games Expo - Australia
« on: May 08, 2014, 11:11:03 AM »
I was quite surprised today to hear Robot Wars Live for the first time in Australia at the annual EB Games Expo in Sydney

Quite cool to see them reach Australia,

Sadly Sydney is on the exact opposite side of Australia for me (and its not exactly cheap to travel), whats even sadder is I will be travelling to Sydney and staying in a hotel right near where the expo is held... less then 2 weeks later! :(

But still nice to see Australia get a bit of love, who knows where it'll lead

General Support / Running on OSx
« on: April 17, 2014, 09:35:18 AM »
Does anyone successfully run RA2 on their Mac?

I mean using a virtual process, im currently trying to engineer RA2 to run on OSx but im hitting a lot of brick walls so in the meantime I want to just be able to run the game virtually so I can continue with my other mods, etc.

I installed XP on Virtual Box but it refuses to run RA2

So who else has done it and what program did you use? just to save me going through the OS install process a bunch of times with different programs :)

Tournament Archives / Clash Cubes "Spin-Off"
« on: January 19, 2014, 09:01:39 AM »
Havent heard much from me huh? But I have been brewing this one in the pipeline for some time

This year marks a 5th year milestone for both myself and one of the most popular tournaments to hit GTM, Clash Cubes. So after 2 years of absence... the cubes are coming back!!

Clash Cubes 1 summed up in one word? SnSnSnS... Somebody unleashed this beast and it didnt disappoint, ripping apart every single opponent in its path and becoming a well known icon in the process, so to celebrate Clash Cubes 1 from back in 2009, this Tournament will be HW SnS.

Its going to be DSL 2.1 Heavyweight, Bots can weigh no more then 800.0kg.

Realism Rules: No part can intersect another part that couldn't have a slot cut in it in real life. Example: Spinner blade passing through armour plate or chassis=OK. Spinner blade passing through wheel or battery=Not OK. There is a small margin of tolerance, though. If a spinner blade just nicks a motor or something, that's OK. Basically this rule is just intended to stop burst-enhanced overlapping spinners like you see in stock RA2.

Glitches in the game may be exploited as long as they do not violate the above conditions.

no AI parts or Cheatbot 2 only what is found in the bot lab of a "clean" DSL 2.1 copy

All Robots MUST be an SnS robot type (Hybrids are permitted, such as HS)

And all Robots Chassis must be a cube shape of any size, this means a square base, square top and equal height (so the bigger your base the higher your bot)

I will AI any bots that need it but if you do know how to AI please do, no Meltybrain stuff however, this tournament is purely FBS_1 or others that use the same base coding.

Smartzones  may be used including custom ones(so long as you send along the files)  however they may only be used for the purposes of AIing no other use will be excepted.

No BFE or AAM everything must be done inside the bot lab
with exception to chassis skinning.

My Skirt hinge collision fix will be utilised in this tournament rendering "Narmour" useless.

Multibots or Clusterbots not allowed due to the rumble format

The arena will be The Combat Zone (Same as CC1 however with a new skin) Ill do some testing and I may add some bounce to the walls too

The format will be a 9 Robot Bracket made up of 3 Rumbles and then a Final

All matches will be 3mins each.

All Entries are final given this is only a small mini tournament, so no updates or anything.. want these to move along pretty quick.

Havok's grant you a do-over the first time however more then once in the match and your robot will be removed from the rumble.

The Tour kicks off on my own 5th Anniversary of being here! 23rd of January

3) MassimoV

6) rnifnuf
7) TBD Devastator

Ive been poking through the RW wiki lately and noticed there is zero information on the Australian broadcast for the international league.

While Australia got Series 3, 4 and a bit of 5 before it was taken off the air as normal (Craig Charles, etc) you might be interested to know we got a completely different and unique broadcast for the international league

International League was the first ever robot wars to be shown in Australia, I believe that was the point of it, before S3 was shown

The Host we had for this show was Jay who still stood up in the stage where Craig did.. although the lack of crowd noise while he spoke suggested the arena was actually empty during his segments'aia

Unfortunately I didnt know the commentator or pit reporter nor can remember.

The other interesting thing was that Terror Australis was never shown, only Terror Australis II (Nemesis) was and was never explained that it was a replacement.

The last thing I can remember was the House robots intro was the 1st World Championship one (without JP though) instead of the regular International League intro

I have a feeling I may have 1 or 2 matches on VHS somewhere.. Im going to see if I can dig them up and get them on the computer to show people RW in a way you have never seen before :)

Modifications / Robot Arena: Apocalypse
« on: February 18, 2013, 09:04:13 AM »
I didnt want to be the one to make this topic as there is a poor reputation surrounding me but I promised Id get something together for the anniversary day.

Basically since mid last year Gazea2 and Myself have been secretly working in a limited spare time to rebirth the project files of Backlash and Ra2inbow along with some new stuff into a new TC Running along the similar lines of Backlash, High amounts of destruction and spinner based robots. We had hoped for a demo to get released today but we are not quite as far along as we wanted..

But something is better then nothing on a day like today so as we reach the end of the first 10 years RA2 has impacted, I introduce Robot Arena Apocalypse

We will be showing off more as time goes on but here is a quick run down of things we have done, working on and plan to make Aftershock bigger then our previous projects.

  • Completely new UI, New Gib files, Navigation, Menus, etc the works!.. (Gaz has been a wizard with the coding aspect of this stuff)
  • New In Game & HUD layouts and setups (Again some awesome coding work on Gaz's end)
  • New Component Line up, a lot of stuff from backlash returning with many makeovers plus Gaz has a bunch of cool looking stuff in the mix too and no doubt some new stuff
  • New Arena's All the Backlash arena's will be brought up to a more present day spec since some are a little dated now plus we might sneak in an extra new 1 or so
  • New AI, goes hand in hand really..
  • New Game Mode, expanding off the original backlash ideas.. there will be more to come on this
In tribute to RA2's amazing 10 years,
  • Stock parts returning and revamped looks and higher resolution
  • Stock Arena's revamped with higher res and detailed skins plus various tweaks

Finally.. I guess we should give you something to eyeball at? the first looks at the new Home Screen with animated rollover menus  :gawe:

(the exit button is unseen as placement isnt finalized and Multiplayer and Exhabition will be now both be accessible through "Quick Match" :) , Id also like to Thank Gaz myself for his fantastic work in the coding bits of this, you may see all my graphics but never forget all the coding that makes it possible ;) )

Hope you are all as excited as we are to enter the new decade with this project, please bare with our personal lives and commitments but we will make it worth waiting for.

With Halloween not far off seems the perfect time to finally present...

Now the entrant list has changed a bit.. I first got more entries then places.. then some people never fixed their entries up so we ended up with only 15 but rather then further delays, I can live with 1 bye match..

Let the invisible fun begin!  :gawe:

Chatterbox / Username Law Discussion Thread
« on: July 05, 2012, 04:49:30 AM »
I have noticed, and I am not the only one, that usernames tend to be... somehow weird. The mere fact that FOTEPX has the same amount of meaning to a 10 year old game than Sage should say something. And it's not the only example.

As you can see, this brings quite a bit of questions about the future username laws. My opinion :

-No having a username when the guy hasn't done anything, in general.
-Username should only be in relation to RA2 (especially interesting bots, tournaments, AI packs, skin packs, modding, etc)
-Usernames should be removed when breaking laws, unless you have a very good reason.
-Always be wary of the other usernames. I've seen a n00b have a username back in the day, it's just ridiculously exxagerated. Although some actions should give or take more than one username, of course.
-Always give a reason for your username, and a clear one. Failure to do so tends to end in username related chaos.

Failure to do so means you will be banned.. or worse, have to read the reputation law thread from start to finish...

I will be blindly banding together a bunch of people and we shall be called "World Champion name deciders of names because I decided to overcomplicate something simple"

Sound fair? no? never-mind, running this by ACAMS anyway..

Things are underway.. only thing I really follow is FMX and Rallycross

Scary practice video from Rallycross

and Jacko's winning FMX trick.. bit debatable I think between this and second place..

Real Robotics Discussion / Inside Team Razer?
« on: June 27, 2012, 10:08:33 AM »
Little bit of a gold mine I dug up on youtube..

Vinny's channel, some interesting insights and info in comments he has made about the place such as

"I'll let you in on a secret - we didn't rupture Matilda's fuel tank. The guys who run the house robots stuffed her full of oil-soaked rags before the fight. It was agreed we could cause Matilda as much damage as we liked, as they wanted to rebuild her. The next series she appeared with a very nasty flywheel instead of the rather pathetic chainsaw."

What you have described pretty much sums it us. We were pushed around a fair bit but damaged the frame and ripped the motor clean off the weapon. Spoke with Noel Sharkey afterwards about how we thought we'd caused significant damage. His reply was 'well it was evened up as they took your wheel off'. When we pointed out we had all our wheels intact he admitted they'd got it wrong. Too late to reverse the decision by then."

and also this gem of a video.. Warheads very first tests

Im posting this for you all to look and admire.. Please dont be an idiot and spam him through youtube..

I myself was hoping for more real life trophy trucks but looks like a neat game.

Comes out in a few days, only a PSN / XBL download so dont expect it to compete with Dirt or Motorstorm.

But seems like a really easy/ cheap way to play multiplayer offroad racing..
