I don't think it's as bad as other pop songs of today.
The issue with almost all pop is that it is very much a genre that sells for about a year then tails off as tastes change. Rock, Jazz, Blues, Electronica, Disco, even some Hip Hop has landmark albums that will get hailed for a long time and remembered, but pop loses appeal a lot faster than other genres (such is the nature of the mainstream media). nothing wrong with dude liking call me maybe. i don't recall him telling people to like it either
True to an extent. Being poor from a compositional perspective isn't necessarily a bad thing (Pixies serve as my evidence). However, it does show a lack of exploration of the music realm and it's definitely not a challenging song. I have to ask one question... Why you guys hate Carly Rae Jepsen's Call Me Maybe? I think it's very catchy song. =)

I'm sorry but Metalcore is a good example of trying to appeal the mainstream audience in a particular cultural group. In many ways it''s even less respectable than pop because it's watering down good elements while pop never had any to begin with (at least IMO) Of course I'm in no place to really judge but realistically from observation that there's similar processes going on.

I fail to see how liking mainstream pop is being "different". Anyway, from a compositional and critical perspective it isn't very good. Also Velocity listens to While She Sleeps so is at fault too :P

Just watched Donny Darko, it's hit no.6 of my list. Crazy but not in a messy way like inception.
First time I watched that film... my jaw dropped at the end and my brain was pretty well fried for the entire following day. (and I loved it)
That one really deserves to be on my top ten as well because I adore that flick. But I have only watched it twice and I base my top ten list off of films that I can't get enough of.

I've only seen DD once but it beat out several films I watch often, same with One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest (although the latter is definitely a film you can only watch once). I'm planning on acquiring some other classic movies. A Place In The Sun is one of the more likely candidates, maybe along with Do The Right Thing. Also, Dogma is a quote goldmine. "Knocks bad odors strait out"
