depending on what you are going for you can generally get away with zteks being as tall as they are with tribars because bots are practically never shorter than a tribar can reach. however there are still ways to get lower.

this isn't exactly what you're describing but I highly doubt any bot is gonna fit under stacked zteks like this.

you can also stack zteks in tandem with an extender and a t connector with axle loading to get some pretty crazy speed setups that sound similar to what you're looking for:

but I also disagree that only zteks are viable as weapon motors. RADs are actually really powerful but they have to be used as grinding-type weapons instead of sheer force. tribars with razors are really good at amputating extenders and stuff:

if you're wanting to build replicas or something though stock is probably not the best mod for this. DSL has much more component variety and can make more convincing replicas, and Ironforge is a finely tuned mod that lets you build destructive bots easier without having to stack stuff constantly like in stock. but feel free to build in stock if you want man, it doesn't get enough love nowadays.

cool
glad someone else is trying to innovate

yeah, standard building is pretty much on permanent coma now. "C'est la vie". we can control GTM culture but i think it's a hivemind thing. most builders that come here are familiar with irl, so they build IRL. and most standard builders left or no longer bother with RA2.

and we ARE relics of a bygone age, it's true. but the fact that we still build is still something.

yes. but rest easy knowing that you can destroy almost any builder on the forum without even trying though :gawe:

again, nothing against irl but making good looking bots is only half the fun. the other half is combat and irl can't fight to the fullest the game allows because they can't take advantage of the way the game physics work. its kind of ironic that standard is actually closer to real life than irl is because standard and real life both play to the rules of physics of their respective domains and irl just makes choices based on looks alone that are ultimately arbitrary to actual combat effectiveness. it's really bizarre actually.

speaking of bizarre choices:

sns flipper hybrid babbbbyyyy
yea so this is kind of based off some of the advice i gave nary on his own psycho hybrid escapades. take a wild guess how combat effective this thing is lmao. doesn't matter, the concept is fun and i had fun building it. needs more batteries though. could be decent in pvp in a few arenas but with ai this thing is screwed.

155
hey old timer
i mean whatever you do it's gonna beat the snot out of any current bot but darnit im still gonna give feedback

i still encourage you to try PvP through parsec because it makes a lot of bot types more viable and gives a lot of room to innovate without the shackles of AI. i think a flipper/juggler hybrid is a great candidate for this kind of thing

i'm a little concerned with it being underweaponed and a lot concerned with only having a single spinner, i feel like two would make it a lot more stable and easier to juggle but i could be wrong. the flippers are probably a little superfluous but if you use it in pvp you can strategically flip to keep opponents off balance which could be very useful. you might as well make the flipper skirts the angled ones to get a bit larger surface area, you have the weight.

EDIT: consarn it you added another one when i was typing. but its not a true phil clone unless you use exclusively overkill tires/gigantic treads with insane servo weapons!

i kind of fail to see the point of the JX. it's solid, not much else to say. if you ditch the jx you can get away with lighter extenders than tite and add some armor panels by the wheels or something. i guess if you got rid of the back skirt and swapped the jx to move the upper spikes it could self right lmao

glad you're still building chief. i might throw together that sns/flipper myself that i was suggesting a few pages back. if you ever want to try parsec pvp sometime hit me up.cross-atlantic lag might be a little rough but trust me it is waaaay better than hamachi or gameranger.

can't really give advice on an irl bot but looks pretty good man. bit sad no internals though. fun artbot

157
hey reier. this is a badass showcase.

keep on trucking and keeping ironforge alive

Obviously Reier is carrying not just IF but most of DSL-S on his shoulders, one look at Reier AI and the amount of detail in the robots is painful. There are a few other good builders but not many people post DSL-S style bots nowadays at all really.

thanks buds. gets pretty depressing when i'm the only one posting combat effective bots anymore. it's just sad that people only build artbots now (and this is coming from someone who is an actual artist irl). I miss the engineering. irl bots can't fight and that's kind of the goal of building in my mind so i feel myself building less and less since no one cares.

maybe i'm a relic of a bygone age but i hate that building hasn't really evolved in any meaningful ways in like 5 years. just hard to build now when i'm the only one left and no one else even bothers to post. it's like why am i even trying. I really do feel like the last builder left whether that's true or not. At least for the engineering aspect of the game. I do appreciate your comments though, means a lot.

take care champ

Just an update: on top of the current hall of fame vote, we'll be having having a second 'legacy' hall of fame for a handful of members who were monumental to the development of ra2. said HOF will be decided on by staff, and in no way will it affect the current/modern hall of fame vote

Voting closes on the 20th btw
thank you.
