I remember getting it as a birthday present alongside Linkin Park's Hybrid Theory. Still enjoy RA2 now and again by playing with AI bots. Gave up on modding it since time and good ideas are completely exhausted.
I also remember how awful my usernames were at the time.

That robot looks sweet. I like the use of the discs. I have yet to use the gas engine for anything creative.

@JoeBlo: Thanks. I'll keep that in mind when I create textures. My main concern is trying to get the carbon fiber to look even on the ram plate. Obviously changing the GMF is going to change the texture's positioning and warp the texture. As for the components, here they are. I only created a few different versions texture wise, and I didn't bother doing different versions of the beater-inspired axe. You will also notice a particular reference in one of the components. That is another thing I want to try to create in this game. Although I will have to recreate the shape to make it exactly like the reference that I am trying to make. http://www.megaupload.com/?d=ARIP3YQEThere shouldn't be any problems other than balancing and texture issues. I also changed the off white version of the wedge component. I just made it a solid color rather than textured. I also just came up with a new idea for the spike club. There is another type of mace that I could recreate by turning the spikes into flanges.

lol. Just because I've been around the Robot Arena series since the days of Aceuplink doesn't mean that I should be a vet XD. Anyways, this is my first component that I created, which is a wedge made out of the ram plate. This also turned out to be a great drum stabilizer. I'm sure that at least a few people remember my old AI pack concept with a bunch of custom components. The bot King Zing uses it for keeping the body stable, the drum off the ground, and the bot protected. This next one shows all of the variants. I have yet to find a use for the large ones, but I'm sure I will soon. I put together the carbon fiber and off white steel not too long ago, but I like them. One thing I will do after I put these components together and upload them is to try to learn about component balancing. I'll upload these sometime tomorrow. Right now I'm coming up with more textures for them. I just wonder if there is a way that I can get templates for these edited components for texturing other than having 3DS MAX.

I was shocked at first when I read Somebody's post, but I'm not even close to being done learning about GMF files. I only edited the ram plate and beater bar XD. It was Clickbeetle's GMF tutorial that helped me out learn about the GMF, along with other RA2 file basics.
I have made a few components before through GMF editing, but they weren't as cool as the ones I posted. I do have one more component that I will post tomorrow. I'm going to make a few versions with different skins and component properties, and then upload them here. The only thing I need to learn is component balancing, but I will upload them regardless of balancing.
I'm glad that this community is still alive and well, and that I received a great welcome back. Thanks guys. I'll be around a lot more often to learn more about robot building DSL style and editing the game itself.

Thanks. I'm glad that these are liked.
I will be making more components out of the ram plates before I move onto other components that involve more vertexes. My next goal after I move on from the ram plates is to make a spoiler out of the snow plow.

I decided to come out and make a showcase for my components. These custom bots were built not too long ago for the sole purpose of seeing how many purposes I can come up with for using these components. My first two components consist of the ram plate and the beater bar (which I found that the beater bar originated from the ram plate, or at least that is what the GMF file said). Gyro Lad uses the first set of components, which are stabilizers that help the bot keep itself down, but this particular set of components aren't long enough to keep it stable other than when it starts to spin up and while driving. The original use of the component was for axe bots to keep them stable. I was inspired by a Killerhurtz RC bot I used to own, but it got thrown away . Jolt shows both of the components being used for different purposes. The second component is a beater bar turned into an axe. I used the axe component as a stabilizer, and it does a great job keeping the bot from tipping forward too much when flipping. I'll be making a few more components as I slowly come back to Robot Arena 2. Between Gran Turismo 5 and college, I haven't played around with Robot Arena 2 much, but I am still interested in this game.

I agree with Serge's recommendations entirely, but this is not why I had to say something after having this topic get old.
Basically I have tried to put an Nvidia GT 240 graphics card in my Windows 7 PC, and I couldn't get it to work with the latest version of the drivers. Windows 7 didn't even see it, and when I booted from it I got a black screen after the BIOS screen. Then I tried using the motherboard video and I couldn't get it to work. I tried so many different methods, and I ended up giving up my new graphics card to my dad, who just popped it in his Vista machine and it worked.
I already have a 9500 GT from Nvidia already, so I just stopped myself from doing very dangerous things (like reinstalling Windows 7 and keep trying a ton more different configurations. I've heard many problems like this, and it wasn't just my card. It seems that many GT 200 series and the 9800 GT have this problem. I'm now using Linux Mint on that computer, but that is only because I wanted to go the open-source route on all but my laptop. My laptop runs 7 and this OS from Windows is quite swell. Just watch out for hardware compatibilities like that. Software compatibility is also another problem for those who have games that work on the XP machines. RA2 works pretty well though.

IMO, custom components can be either changed text files or gmf files. They are outside of stock, and DSL is defined as it's own component class.

Yeah. I know. I'm just taking it small steps at a time.
The obstacle objects are up in the air, and your first post helped me try to figure out what I had to change to make the obstacles work.

Wow. Thank you. That first part on it's own helped. I was wondering how this worked since I'm now trying to use the Combat Zone as the practice arena.

http://www.megaupload.com/?d=Q09MODGA - Password is "hecken" without quotes. video just in case you haven't seen it - Next week, I will have a new version. The new version replaces some of the modified bots such as the modified SCRAMJET and PlayMaker with two new ones. I also replaced the replicas with new bots.

Ahh. Well, thank you. I've basically lost interest in Stock, but DSL and custom bots still interest me. Particularly the HW and SHW classes, but I'm somehow building decently into the Lightweight class in custom and I've yet to build much more other than the Lightweight that I had earlier in DSL.
I'm sure that my interest in DSL will overflow when DSL 3 comes out.
Edit - Check out the first page. It has some screenshots of the newer UI build. I'm only going to make incremental changes and this may take awhile before the final release. I am also putting some of the components that are illegal into the cheatbot2 components list. Now I am not allowing special mobility components (hovercraft, magnets, bumble bee configuration, etc).

Yeah. I downloaded BBEANS a while back and checked it out. I almost forgot about those stacked batteries.
I am working on the UI again, and I ought to have pictures up soon, as well as some changes to the arenas and the AI. One thing that's hurting me in the AI is that Beta (one of the DSL replicas) doesn't like to move when its weapons are firing while it's being counted out. Frenzy is very similar to whipper, so I'll take a look at Whipperplus, since Whipperplus has some sort of code that apparently helps this issue.

Ahh. Well, this is a bit different than what I've expected. I'm glad that some like both realms of gameplay.
Later on today I'll show some more progress on this. Then I'll work on it and probably not come back until next week.

I used to use ESET's Smart Security 4 for all of my PCs. Now for all of the Windows PCs, I use the new Windows Antivirus program. however, I still have an ESET license to burn through on my newest PC, so ESET will stay until December.
I never did like a lot of the anti-virus programs. I've tried AVG, ESET Smart Security (with firewall), Norton, and immediately got rid of Mcaffe after it destroyed some Windows files. Now I'm currently using ESET and the new Microsoft Antivirus program. My newest Windows 7 Desktop being the one with ESET.
I won't even talk about my Linux computers XP.

My mod's focus is to have something for me and my friends to mess around with and try to make a tournament out of. Plus having similar properties of unrealism back in the day. However, the GTM community found it easily and many have already asked questions about it.
BTW - Your mod looks very promising. I had seen some of the UI, but I haven't seen the video until now. Very nice and it still sticks to realism (and might I say that it adds more realism IMO). I'll have to play it whenever it comes out.

Recently my video on Youtube was found not long after it was posted. Well, I have decided to build this pack to do the following Reason #1 I wanted to get local people who were interested into robotics get into RA2. I built this pack to show different designs for those who were interested. Now, the majority of the bots are unrealistic and some are rebuilds of some known robots (Only two bots were copied and two were inspired by a design and completely built around this design) If the owners want them gone, I will remove them immediately. I have them unrealistic because the majority of the people that are interested like both unrealistic and realistic (which DSL 3 will be another tournament later on after its release, unless it gets cancelled, then DSL 2.1). Reason #2 I have this AI Pack for entertainment and art purposes. Now many who have tried this mod already know that there are some, not all, UI changes. I have yet to completely finalize everything and I have even rebuilt the main menu. I am changing everything from Chaos AI Pack to Chaos Tournament, because that's what it will become. Now, when I mean entertainment, I mean a lot of destruction and a lot of throwing around the arenas. Realistic bots have quite the battles, but heavily unrealistic bots have a lot more fun and excitement around them (custom components or even bare stock bots like those from the Starcore AI Packs). Reason #3 I wanted to build something in my spare time and I was still interested into RA2, though DSL just wasn't cutting it. I actually like the unrealistic values of stock RA2, but since using Alphasim's motors, I wanted to build custom (well, not custom as in having a one weapons bot that will do 999999+ damage per hit). A more balanced (but unrealistic) set of components. I wanted to add that extra unrealistic value to RA2. I have played so many games with mods that either made things really great and realistic, to those that throw things out of proportion. Both of them entertain me, but having the satisfaction of building my own mod (originally for myself) made me start it. I'll probably be bashed for this, but I respect modifications to games. They add life to the game, not matter how realistic. Okay, now for some pictures of the progress. Expect the title to show up better on the final release, though I don't know what I'm going to do with it without it looking bad. Now the below image I'm being a bit controversial about. The surrounding background for the bots look good, but I don't know if I want to keep it or the original one for the purpose of making easy to photoshop screenshots (you know, for robot previews). My original thought was to keep this one and have the bland one that's easy to photoshop as an extra that can be swapped with renaming files. This modified Octagon will have one last change. I don't like the top plates' stripes not being even. The guard rails are even and the guard rail at the entrance is a bit odd as well, but I'm keeping those. lol Binary Now, I am planning to make some new bots. I'm going to get rid of the replica bots, and RAMJET II (SCRAMJET remake) and Playmaker. The others may have modifications, especially textures.
