I think that's part of the problem with mainstream music, it has to be so incredibly pitch-perfect that it saps almost all of the personality out of the music. I think this is better than most mainstream music is today:

Any Nu Metal band, (except Faith No More and Rage Against The Machine) any mainstream crap you hear on pop radio, Taylor Swift, Justin Beaver, Miley Cyrus, Lady GaGa, Avenged Sevenfold (I only like the first album) Eminem now, Metallica, (I only like there first four albums), Muse now, Green Day now, The Jonas Brothers, Any white rap artist, 3Oh3, Ke$ha (I find the dollar sign very fitting), Flo Rida, Katy Perry...and that's about it. I love all other music basicly. Now, I don't have a problem if you like any of these artists, it's just that if someone says "OH MY GOD, SO AND SO IS TEH BEST ARTIST EVAR!!!1!11!!ONE11!!" THEN I have have a problem with you, because there is no such thing as a GREATEST BAND EVAR, it's just a matter of preferance.

The black album=Classic heavy metal
Load/reload=experimentational, but still very good proper rock music (I die a little when poeple say that the kings of leon are rock

)
St anger=St anger
Death Magnetic=metal, and a very good album if it didn't clip

I'm fairly confident the next metallica album will be even better, the only problem they have that can't be easily fixxxed ATM is james hetfields voice going, although I wouldn't hold it against him as its more age than not trying.

I remember seeing a live video of nickelback covering master of puppets, and it was surprisingly good

I reckon they have the ability to be good, but instead make incredibly generic pop that idiots think is called rock.

Not all rap is bad, but the rap in modern pop songs is just awful. I've listened to rap a bit before, mostly in Gorillaz songs, and liked it, but I can't bear to listen to anything popular nowadays with rap in it.
