I wanted to see what other people think of me. Am I a n00b?

No, you are not a n00b.
Any comments would be appreciated. :D

I have no idea what some people talking about  sparkey, freeziez and co. have no positive impact on the forum in my view.. only negative and if they were to leave it wouldn't hurt the community in anyway. we have lot's of members who do still love the game like Click, Joe and Sage who are doing so much more for us then all these "n00bs" could ever do... great robots, great tournaments, great mods and so on.

Also veterans try and help people like sparkey, yet sparkey and co. don't seem to improve or listen most of the time instead they run off to the junk yard section to spam smileys pointlessly.. makes me wonder why anyone would bother with them at all.

It really isn't hard to make decent bots that are somewhat original especially after being a member here for like 8 months. maybe you can move their showcases to the junk yard since that's what most all of sparkey's showcase is anyway.

this isn't me raging, just speaking my mind (ok maybe I lost a match on SC2) but surely we can brighten up the forum a little bit instead of letting it sink into the junk yard section.
It's a game! Why do you care if others build to your standards? If they're having fun, the game has served its purpose. If there is any problem with this forum, it's people taking this way too seriously.

*facepalm* ok I'm gonna advertise this place on a certain website filled with trolls, maybe then people will realize quality > quantity.

I care that people have gone out of their way to help the new people with tutorials and what not and a select few have chosen to ignore pretty much all help and as sage said this is a RA2 forum we should all care otherwise why are we here?

Even I swallowed my pride and admit I suck at building, none of us are better than each other.
Define "better", when builders like ACAMS and Clickbeetle exist.

Natef stop spouting such nonsense please.

You are not a n00b, maybe too much of a fanboy IMO but you do have enough skills (you might even become a popup specialist one day with enough work) and most importantly, you are not trashing the community like n00bs do.

Have you considered that some people don't want to build bots your way? Perhaps they prefer a simpler bot with a cool chassis and paint job to a small box with 40,000 spikes.

As most of you know, I joined this forum back in May, and I've been here since.  I'm gonna be honest, the four months I've spent on this forum have so far been more enjoyable than all of my accumulated time in other online communities.  I've been here and there, and I've left numerous communities for one of two reasons; either a small feeling of dissent eventually boiled over and I left or the group dissipated and I left with everyone else.  So far, I've had no real resentful thoughts towards this community or its occupants, and so I think I'm gonna be around for a while.  However, let's face facts, this is a community based around a seven year old bargain bin game; this community could easily be dissolved if some bad decisions are made or something major were to happen.

Now I know we all can hate newbies.  A lot of them are ignorant, emotional, preteens that don't like to listen, but we can't have our community without them.  You aren't gonna find a lot of newbies who are older, listen better, and can think strait.  We can't, however, try and cut down a newbie every time he doesn't make a robot according to the set standards or posts something stupid in the junkyard.  They should be reprimanded accordingly, but we can't have a community without newbies.  Veterans are going to leave, and what determines if the community stays alive is how well we can replace them with newer members.  Now this doesn't mean we should start kissing up to new members just because we need them for our community to stay around, but we can't go and bite the hand that feeds at the same time.  If we learn to deal with these newer members better, we can lift the mood of the place a little.

I know I may be taking this a bit to serious, but like I said I really don't want anything bad to happen to this community.  This is the first community that I've really settled down into.

OK, my responses to the thread...

@TX: Even if you think nobody wants to see the tournament, keep it going anyways. I had quite a few people post in TWOC discussion thread saying they would enter. 3 entrants and me later, I had a tournament going. Not just a normal tournament, where I can film all of the matches in one day and post them in two (@Craaig :P), I needed to wait for each round, then make a new splash, and then film. Bottom line is, someone is interested, even if it is only a few people.

@Natef and Naryar: Nary is right. You could become a popup specialist easy. SnSs practically fell in my lap after CC1. That was one of my first serious SnS in a while, it wins a tournament, and next thing I know I have a pretty good knack for SnS. And we don't need anyone leaving

@SM: Bad idea about the post thing, people would just come in to spam so they could stay. And some people will not post for a while because they lurk

@ACAMS: I really like the system in place with the warnings, etc. I just think it needs more rules related to trolling, spamming, etc.

@Sage: I am one of the ones you mention about Stock vs. DSL. To be honest with you, the stock showcase section has been much more active in the last couple weeks.

My thoughts:
First of all, we need to get rid of the reputation system. The only thing it has brought is some bawwwing from certain people who care what others think. I have never seen the point of this anyways

Second, At first thought, one would say that it is a good idea that we should delete the off topic section. That is not the case though. I doubt that people like Hydro or Natef would stay around without story time (which is by far the most popular thread here. even I pop in from time to time).

Third: Being 12 has nothing to do with immaturity. We have plenty of mature 12 year olds, and when I joined, I was a 14 year old n00b. And if I wasn't as oblivious as I was then, I probably would have left will all the flaming that I received, which flew completely over my head

Fourth: THIS FORUM IS NOT DYING. People have been bawwwing about a dying community for a while. All I can say is that in the last 2 years, it has grown exponentially.

Fifth: STOCK WILL NEVER DIE, because that is what everyone plays first, and some people get latched on to it and love it. And its THE STOCK GAME. We wouldn't have any of this without it.

Sixth: The only way RA2 will ever die is if we stop innovating. Stop getting better. Well guess what, we haven't for as long as I've been here. DSL 3 will come out soon (hopefully), Serge is doing wonders with his exe work, tournaments are flourishing (and too many aren't a bad thing, its more examples for people that they can use to get better. I have an example. The first serious DSL flipper I ever made. It had Mag Snappers. Why? Smashbox 2.). Everyone here has there own share of innovations (Hell, who ever expected someone as new as Thyrus to reveal the Zero-G Glitch to the world).

Seventh: Tournaments are a great thing because they have helped me improve. I suck at building something random. I cannot go into the bot lab and just think up something to build. I need a tournament to build for. Something where my bot needs to be its best. I build better when it is. I also know what to build. Hell, look at Stanley 2. No way I ever would have built it that good or put that much time in if it hadn't been for BBEANS 6.

Eighth: Rules need to be enforced for ALL PEOPLE. I've seen too many vets getting away with things like swearing that a newbie would get flamed for. Yes they have earned the position they are in, but they shouldn't abuse it.

Ninth: N00b whacking should be a semi-punishable offense, when it goes too far.

Tenth: We need less smileys, especially the dancing ones, and the FAIL smiley.

Just my thoughts

Well it is said and done, and you cannot undone what you've done.

And I hate it when G.K., no matter how much he is doing it in good spirit, is helping a tournament. It reinforces the bad behavior.

@TX: IF you start another tournament, the only way to get respect is to go start to finish, and host it well.

trolling, spamming, etc is NOT allowed in the main forum....if it is done, you guys need to report it, and it will be stopped!

As for Playground and such.....just block it, or don't go there.
