Yes, but the OS takes up 1 or 2 gigs, and quite a lot is used by AV programs, Internet Browsers and other background programs. If I reduced my PC to 4 gigs, I wouldn't be able to do quite a lot of the things I do actually do on my PC.

Of course, if you have integrated graphics you're gonna have a bad time no matter what.

OS takes up to 1 or 2 gigs?  Not if you are running a 32 bit window XP and turn graphic to classic.  Even window 7 don't use that much as long as you turn off all the OS graphic settings/real time surveillance/smart tools.

Now of course if you want to run 20 different programs in the background and have the annoying OS graphic settings/real time surveillance/smart tools on, then sure you need a 64 bit machine with 8 gig ram.

Ok, here's my PC stuff:
Win7 64-bit
8gb DDR3 RAM
1TB HDD
nVidia GTX580 graphics card
Intel i5 Sandy Bridge (OC'd to 3.3 GHz)

What I put it through:
2 constant tabs on Firefox (GTM and DayZDB.com map)
One or two games (Sometimes I'll alt-tab and forget about them.)
Kaspersky Internet Security 2012
Tekkit Server (2GB) Dedicated RAM
Often windows explorer, with my csgo folder and downloads folder open
Windows Task Manager
Sometimes iTunes

So yeah, that's why I need 8 gigs.

Yeah, I didn't choose to put it on there. Weekly MBAM and ComboFix scans work much better than Kaspersky.

i'm chilling at about 1.6g  with firefox, pandora and a java editor running on win7x64. the only time i ever really go above 2.5g is when i  run something like autodesk inventor and am working on a large assembly.

I'm le PC expert.
Good news:
Got a nice gaming PC! :D

Bad news:
We have to build half of it, and none of the parts are labeled, and there the no instructions. FML.

Turns out that it was already built, and they gave us some random parts and bolts for free. -_-

:FFFUUU

My new 'gaming' computer runs BF3 at approx. 5 FPS and I can't find out how to change tabs in the system settings. So this 1k desktop is only marginally more powerful than my dad's Laptop (Judging by how well Minecraft runs), which is 1 year older and half the price.

In short; it's big, expensive and bloody useless. >=(
Most of the parts are asus, by the looks of things. Well, some of them, anyway.

And I would, if I knew how to build a working computer.

Ah, yes.

The PC came with a box of assorted crap, so I thought that I had to build part of it and went into a semi-rage mode.

And BF3 was failing because, for some reason, the PC was using integrated graphics instead of the graphics card. I had to fiddle with the (custom and very helpful) BIOS to get it to work.

Step 1: Unplug monitor from integrated graphics output on motherboard.

Step 2: Plug into graphics card output in the expansion slots.

Step 3: Don't mess with the BIOS.

Thanks for being a year late with that one. Besides, I got it fixed just fine. Now all I need to do is stop it vapourising everything that goes into the disc drive.
