They also had segments on the builders themselves. On one tape I have, they talked about how Andy Sauro bought "Slap 'Em Silly" online. I found one about Carlo Bertocchini's "suit" he made for his cat on Team Nightmare's website.

Not saying that Battlebots is bad of course, but between it and Robot Wars, the latter wins out for me.
I also noticed that RW was anti-american to a degree. They usually picked the worst US bots to fight in the international events, with the exceptions being the second world championship, and some of the bots from the Fourth wars special.
