This is something that I make sure to stress frequently, yet somehow these discussions keep popping up. If you feel the need to ask to be promoted, the likelihood is that you DO NOT deserve it. And it's always the same people bringing it up, and those people will NEVER become advanced users. Think of it this way, AU's are supposed to be role models for the rest of the forum. If they spent the majority of their time asking and begging and moaning to become AU, then it is likely that other users will attempt to do the same.It's sort of like on your birthday as a kid, when you're opening presents from your grandparents or something, and before you even get a chance to take it in your mom goes "Now say thank you..." At that point the "Thank You!" loses all meaning.
