Something similar happened to me a while back. I was going down a country road, and some blithering idiot in a Mitsubishi SUV came barrelling down the other way doing around 60, and making no attempt to slow down. We had to swerve into the ditch on the side of the road, and we almost hit a milestone. Just one of the reasons I haven't been interested in learning to drive yet.

Did you block the fans with rags? Hit it with a hammer? Play Crysis 2 for 12 hours without a break and without installing it to hard drive?

You can also get a RRoD if some of your cables are half plugged into the Xbox. Check that before you send it off. =P

Go to TB for that one, you should get your money back if it's the headset's fault. Try the headset on a friend's xbox, just to check.
