"tap" in murrica refers to tap water. So there isn't a point to calling it taps. Plus, no one in murrica i know calls it a faucet, we all call them sinks.

Because "fries" are called chips. And there is also a brand of crisps in the UK called French Fries. If everything was called chips, it would be hideously confusing. Rioting would occur over the confusion, and Basmati supplies would plummet. Do you really want a Christmas without Basmati?

The tap is the thing the water comes out of, the sink is the metal bowl that is underneath the tap that has the drain in it. Pretty sure, from what I've heard, 'Faucet' is what Americans call that which the water comes out from.

so i just got back from walmart and got some pepsi max to see why you brits like it... the verdict ? it's...
well, it tastes better than diet soda, but it tastes like a lackluster cola. Ah whatever, I'll still drink it since i spent five bucks on it..
