Because there is no upside to war. None at all. It's a tragic waste of resources, manpower and human life, so I can't for the life of me understand why people feel the need to glorify it with video games like that.

Maybe because it's less destructive than killing real people...

War has always been ugly, but back then before the era of total war it was a bit better. Sure there was still rape pillage and burn episodes, and this ain't pretty, but at least people could defend themselves. What can you, civilian, do against an armed, ancient warrior ? A little bit. What can you, civilian, do against an atomic bomb ? Much less.

I see no problem with two countries wanting to kick each other's ass and sending armies of voluntary soldiers to battle against each other. After all, it makes for a good light show, a good story and a battle of wits between two leading groups, which is most often quite interesting to read about if you have sufficiently low sympathy for the soldiers, or are a fanboy of one side.

Oh, and I'm a main RTS/RPG player. I don't like FPS mostly because I don't like guns.

I'd rather blow a guy up with a grenade on a game, where it's just pixels, than do it in real life, where they actually have families.

I went to a local-ish restaurant called The Steadings for lunch today. I asked for Rhubarb Crumble for dessert. I hadn't had it in years.

No actually, screw peace. Conflict is so much funnier and so much more to learn from. Guess what happens when a country is at peace for too long ? It rots from lack of obstacles to overcome. That's why I refuse the idea of paradise. A perfect place ? Eternal bliss ? Looks like a place where we will degrade and will become larvae.

I have some measure of respect for Gandhi because he fought for freedom, he had epic levels of willpower and he was a good example of an Übermensch, but not for his nonviolence doctrine.

After all, violence is part of the human being and very few people are able or willing to be entirely nonviolent. Hell violence as defined by "destruction or damage to part or the entirety of a living being", that seems a pretty good definition, is what we must do ALL DAY to eat. And is defending itself, a good principle, not violence by definition ?

I am not saying we should be brutes, far from it. I am saying we should be balanced people.
