It's about a family who are told by a police inspector that a girl just died in the infirmiary, and that they were all linked with her life, and all helped push her towards her suicide. If they had taken moral responsibility for their actions, and actually cared about her life, she wouldn't have committed suicide. THAT is why we should care what eachother think.

No, that is part of what I'm saying. If we don't care about one-another, it may end up with disasterous consequences. For example, war would be prevented because you would care about what others think, and so would not argue. :P

Pretty much. One way or another, everyone is. After all, our initial purpose of existence is to survive. If that's not hardwired into our subconscious, our brains wouldn't even try to do stuff. Selfless acts of tearjerkyness and mushy stuff come after that. :P

I am selfish and proud of it, though I know it's not always the smartest move to be selfish. Though i very rarely eat croissants here.

Think of it this way. If you are truly a goody-two-shoes and holier than Jesus, you would work your ass off in a crappy job in crappy conditions with crappy pay, donate all your earnings to charity (with an anonymous name), and die a couple of days after because you're too selfless to buy the things you need for survival. :P

And wait. If I understand your statement right, Lawful Good morality (that seems to be enforced in most societies) is just a means to make people content with a crappy position and not wanting to rebel. All the better for society !
