You play the trumpet too? Cool. The best tip that I've ever heard for performing is that music is fluid. Once it's over, it's over - all of the mistakes that you'll make are behind you and are gone forever, so don't hold on to them. Anyways, do you play in a concert band, or something else? I mostly played jazz. Much more fun.

I play pretty much everything, but fully agree that jazz is much more fun than anything else. And that's what we were playing yesterday.

In the end I played more than anybody else, rearranged he stage a bunch, carried all the stacks of chairs inin the beginning an kept everyone organised and quiet backstage. I was busy.

The best advice I've ever heard is that, "You gotta feel it in your gut." Tapping your foot to keep the beat isn't anywhere near as good as moving your body. While this may not be too good in a concert band/wind ensemble setting, it'll really help you out when practicing (at least). By the time you perform the piece, don't rely on the music. Get those rhythms down so your focus can be on the conductor and listening to everyone else.

Also, play with the uttermost confidence. Even if you screw up! Play with confidence and people won't even notice any errors. If you've got a really tough rhythm, feel free to leave out a note or two.

Sad. When I was in high school, my director had a sound guy record all of our performances. Needless to say, I have plenty of my solos sitting around on CDs somewhere. I'm much better than I was then, so I have no real desire to ever listen to them again.

I made cookies.

They tasted good.

My dad lost his cookie scooper so I have to roll the damn buggers into balls by hand. It's very hard to do this with Betty Crapper cookie mix because it sticks to everything (my fingers included). Oh well, the cookies still tasted good.

Well there's my random blabbering for the day.

I remember my director that I had for most of high school was pretty awesome, and he recorded most of our competitions. I wasn't much good though, so I can't really bring myself to listen to them. Dynamics were never really my forte (AHAHAHAHAHA bad pun). I got pretty damn good in my senior year, but my school brought in a new director. He was probably the worst teacher I had in my entire high school career. We had a very good core group of players (we'd finished with a silver at the Canadian National jazz competition), but nobody wanted to get yelled at every morning, so a lot of guys quit. We ended up with a ton of underage kids, rendering us inelligible to compete in most festivals. It was a shame, because I'd finally expanded my range up to a high G
