Razer is entering the relm of Gaming Notebooks
« on: August 26, 2011, 08:02:53 PM »
With this...

You may remember it as the "Switchblade" from CES... but there are a few main differences.
-NVIDIA got on board with the graphics (Essential)
-Intel went from an Atom Processor to the Second Gen Core i7 Sandy Bridge Processor (Another Essential Change)
-Is now less than a inch thick (Awesome)
-The Keyboard was changed from an Optimus Maximus style keyboard to a Backlit keyboard with 8 programmable LCD Backlit Shortcut Keys
-The Touchpad is also a second 800X480 Pixel Multitouch Display (WHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAT!)
-They bumped the display from 7 inches to 17.3 inches (I am kinda bummed about this one, since I wanted a budget-ish device)
-Under 7 Pounds
Other things include...
-USB 3.0
-Switch Blade UI overlay to Windows 7 (Awesome Enhancements)
-No more tacky touch screen monitor (Glad to see that gone
- A $2799 Pricetag

I personally LOVE Razer's products, I use their Onza Xbox Controller, their Mamba Mouse, their Chimaera 5.1 headset (way better than Turtle Beaches), and their Lycosa Keyboard. All great quality products. The price is just too steep and I also believe that they should of went with the Netbook form factor to make it more different and alot less pricey for the consumer. All in all, this is a dream that I won't be getting... sadly.

Razer usually has great prices for their products. But in the Gaming Computer business, it is very notorious for heavy price tags. I'd recommend building your own computer. Mine costs around 900 dollars and it is wrecking benchmarks... also is future proof (can upgrade internals easily)

Just a note:

The keyboard will be released as its own entity when The Old Republic comes out later this year. The cost of it is $200, which is amongst the priciest keyboards I have ever heard of (and apparently, only ~10-15 Cherry keyboards and the Optimus Maximus are pricier).

Does that mean it's worth the $2800?

Well, the Razer has had its share of reliability issues.  Nevertheless, the critics couldn't stop praising its design, and It's done well on an international scale.  The Razer really found its stride in the 5th and 6th generation.  But though it now seems unbeatable, it never could one-up a certain PC.

A Q&A Session proves the absence of an Optical Drive, so Steam or GTFO

Unfunny joke inbound!

I will definitely not get it, though. Too expensive, and I have already bought a lot of things, not to mention I already have a gaming PC.

I agree, you can't ignore the fact that the Razer was always bested by a certain PC.

You can make a custom built PC for a lower price.
