New program that can be used to make components?
« on: July 30, 2010, 04:07:40 AM »
I'm not sure whether this should be posted here or in the software and programs board.

I found this cool new 3d modelling program and, although it isn't 3d studio max, they can be saved in that format. I was wondering whether the more experienced modders could use it to make new components. The best thing is... It's free!

You would still need 3D Studio Max to export the models to RA2. This was the issue with G-Max.

(Stupid question that I probably should know but haven't lurked enough to find out.)

Can I export Solid Works models into RA2?

If you build some software to do it.

It's hard to use anything else than 3dsmax, since:
1) a lot of the nongeometric objects are based on Havok Exporter/Reactor, which is 3dsmax-only (rbcollection, simobject, csolver, etc).
2) the gmf file format uses both vertex and face normals, which is quite uncommon.
3) the gmf file format uses per-face mapping instead of the usual per-vertex mapping.

kthx

Plus you can get anything you want for free anyways, as long as it's digital ;)
You got my vote for RA2 Wizard. Always and forever.
