Music/Movie reviews you disagree with
« on: May 22, 2012, 02:55:34 PM »
I've been reading some album reviews (and, yes, I know most of them are a load of rubbish and completely biased, but some of them are ridiculously unfair (especially since they are for a public, well-known website))
So, yeah, post ones that you find absolutely ridiculous here with your comments.
I got one here:
http://drownedinsound.com/releases/13104/reviews/3291135 + most of the comments after it.

To be honest it's probably true that Pendulum acts more as a gateway into a genre than the best example of it.
http://www.sputnikmusic.com/review/13869/Exodus-The-Atrocity-Exhibition...Exhibit-A/
Pretty bad review
http://www.sputnikmusic.com/review/42483/Opeth-Damnation/
A weak review with some good points despite that, but the comments are truly stupid.

They made good points genre-wise on the Pendulum review, but they didn't seem to get the idea that they use influences from different genres to combine with their music. That, and it seemed like they don't like the music they do anyways. Why review something if it's something you don't usually like anyway?

Everything by Armond White.  Every time he puts pen to paper, the world gets a little bit stupider.  This is his Toy Story review.  The coward tried to delete it, but as is the nature of the internet it was pretty easy to recover:

Final Destination 3-4 sucked. BAD.

For me though, every time I see someone call Titanic a good movie, I want to go kick a panda.

Movies that I liked yet critics and people like to hate:

http://www.metacritic.com/movie/battleship
Battleship
I thought it was a very good movie and I believe because of movie critics this film will not gain a whole lot of money because of it, I believed that Taylor Kitsch, Liam Neeson and Rihanna did great jobs in the roles they played, and hopefully Universal will do a sequel so that the scene after the credits does not go un-explained.

http://www.metacritic.com/movie/john-carter
John  Carter
A Sci-fi soap opera that was somewhat similar to what you would seen in Star Wars and Star Trek, and also another movie that Taylor Kitsch was in, but why did this get a bad rating and not a whole lot of money? I thought that this movie was amazing, but sadly thanks to it grossing almost nothing it likely might not see a sequel.

http://www.metacritic.com/movie/saw-3d
SAW 3-D
It was great 3D and was way better than some of the other sequels too it, but why was this one particularly rated so bad, it had new traps, some changes an continued to give a background on the Jigsaw killer, I thought it was a good sequel to the SAW series.

http://www.metacritic.com/movie/transformers-dark-of-the-moon
Transformers Dark of the Moon
While defiantly better than Revenge of the Fallen, it was about as good as the first one, and also set the bar really high for future high budget sci-fi films with its over a billion dollar gross(10th film to do so), and was IMO a great way to end off the "original trilogy" of the transformers saga.

http://www.metacritic.com/movie/thor
Thor
It may have been put in theaters at a bad time with notable competition being Super 8, Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, Hangover 2 and Green Lantern it was a quite well done superhero film that I think was overshadowed by the other films that were out, It was fun and was an overall good movie that once again was given a bad rating

http://www.metacritic.com/movie/scooby-doo-2-monsters-unleashed
Scooby Doo 2 Monsters Unleashed
The sequel to the 2002 live action film of Scooby Doo. I found that this movie was a lot more interesting and funny than its first film and still provides very good laughs, it is a shame they did not make a 3rd Scooby Doo film and instead made lame and crappy direct to video prequels which were horrible.

http://www.metacritic.com/movie/spider-man-3
Spider-Man 3
The third spiderman film. It was a really well done film that, I don't no why so many people hated it, I thought that the acting was strong and the villains(Venom, New Green Goblin and Sandman) were pretty awesome, I hope that Amazing Spiderman will be as good.

http://www.metacritic.com/movie/a-nightmare-on-elm-street
Nightmare on Elm Street(2010 Remake)
A lot of people dislike this because Robert Englund was not in the film as Freddy Krueger but instead they got a darker more sinister Freddy with
Jackie Earle Haley as the main role, IMO I thought he did the role quite well. Another reasons for it being disliked were that they got rid of the comedic bits of the series(I thought this was a good decision for the remake).

I think that is it...

As for dislikes:

I thought that Hugo was boring and was horrible
http://www.metacritic.com/movie/hugo

Finally, a lot of people like Paranormal Activity and say it is scary, I have seen it and actually find it really bland and not scary

Battleship's crap not because of the acting (pretty fine considering the script really), but because of its terribad script ridiculous plot.

John Carter isn't that bad, it's cheesy, sure, but it's Disney. What would you expect? :P

Saw 3D was crap and the new traps did absolutely nothing to make up for it. The plot is almost as over-the-top as that of The Room. Despite being a horror film, I have laughed tons of times here.

Dark of the Moon was in no way as good as the first one, but thankfully is was also way better than the second. PLOT IS CRAP

Thor got the Disney treatment, but I also kinda liked it. Treat the bad reviews like those 1/10s & 2/10s on Diablo 3 from butthurt gamers who knew the servers would be clogged on the first day of release.

And wait, there are people who actually liked Scooby Doo 2? O_O

Spider-Man 3 would have been fine had there been one less villain or two. Instead, its pacing became inconsistent and that what probably made the reviewers hate it.

Like most remakes, the Elm Street remake looks totally awesome, but for some reason doesn't contain that 'zing' that made the original so memorable. Still couldn't point it out. I liked the darker Freddy, though.

I also lost my taste for family films, so yeah, I didn't like Hugo either. :P

I didn't like Koloss personally, the production sounded a little too soft and the vocals were mixed too high. The songs also lacked any real inspired riffwork in them.

I actually hate all of those movies.

But I do agree with Hugo, it was kind of boring in general. PA is also ehhh; it's a good concept, but after 3 movies, and basically just sitting there for 2 hours solely to be scared for a couple seconds, it doesn't work IMO.

Hugo. The heck, that movie was good-ish. Only bad part was, throughout the while movie I imagined Hugo being Naryar as a child. Ruined the movie
