Getting a new compy
« on: November 04, 2011, 04:17:06 PM »
ohaider guys. I'm going to get a new laptop for Christmas around the £900-£1000 mark (with me chipping in ~£200 for it). I've currently been eyeing up the Asus N53, because I trust Asus as a company as I am a happy previous customer etc. etc.

Any thoughts?

Wow, so expensive for what you get. (Well, I'm a desktop guy so I wouldn't really know)

I (or my dad) honestly don't have enough time these days to do that AT ALL.

Can we move away from self-builds, please?

Yeah, I made this thread so I get suggestions for what to get

The question is: Do you NEED a laptop?(i.e. Something portable) If not, get a desktop.

Yes. Definitely YES.

I move my compy around the house often do do stuff and always bring it on holiday overseas so I can check emails, weather etc. while I'm in the hotel room.

I know you can get better specs for money if you go desktop but something portable is a must.

Aha, thanks Jake. Are Alienware highly rated? Anyone have them? Would it be best to get the bog-standard M14x or kit out an M11x?

Alienwares are expensive as heck for what they are, but if you have the money then by all means get it.

Alienwares are totally the best unless you're a really casual businessman who doesn't play games. They're really fast and stable, and they look awesome as heck too

Ok, thanks. I've been saving my monies up for a few years to get something special, so why not get something like an Alienware? =D

Also, is the fact that Dell is an only-internet company matter too much? Is customer service still there?

I play a few games on mine so I think Alienwares fit me well

Customer service is average at Dell, though you might want to ask someone else as I've only had to speak with them once. It's really up to you though.

DP. Medion. High specs but I can only think that they have low quality. Plus the m14x is a no no. The amount of seller refurbs you get raises my eyebrow a bit.

Gotta back you up on the ASUS.  Nice machines. I really like the build quality of them.  Sold a few at our store over the past couple of years and have not had any customer complaints or problems at all.  I always felt they were a bit pricey in comparison to some of the other brands, but it seems to be well worth it.

Do you just want to play games on it?

What computer store do you go to?

1. I do everything on it. Schoolwork, games, you name it.

2. I have a life and don't go to computer stores regularly :trollface
