The suspension was too stiff from the looks of the first shot.

Actually, its the opposite.

Loose anti-roll bars will cause the body to roll over more towards one side during hard cornering.  If you hit a rumble strip while the suspension is already at its limits, the car goes up on two wheels.  If the anti-roll bars and etc. are stiffer, then the car simply loses traction and slides over.

Built a B-class Impala SS today.  It was originally intended to be a crasher, being 4000lbs and having 420ish horses.  Turns out it was actually competative....

It wasn't the apex, it was the 8 foot high rumble strip next to it.

For some reason I thought it would be a good idea to drive over it going 120 mph.  The car has big, grippy tires and a soft suspension prone to body roll.  Combine the two and you got a good formula for flipping.
