So the cat is out of the bag...

FB discovered the 140 cm extenders a couple years ago.  But we knew that if we revealed their existence, the question of whether or not they should be legal stock parts would inevitably come up.  And we didn't have an answer to that.  The 140cm round extender is a no-brainer; it's pretty much useless.  But the 140cm square extender... it would change the face of stock bot building.

Well, there's nothing to be done about it now.  Now the Big Question arises:  Stock?  Or Non-Stock?

I agree with Click, even though 027 found the Redbird.

027 found the Redbird.

many people knew it existed... I knew there was a second GMF there all the time but didnt bother with it since it lacked a text file (would be a cheat part imo) I figured it went with the preview image that was in the UI folder.

I think these parts personally should become Hidden = 2 so they are usable but not allowable

Some would argue that if the Snapper II is allowed, there's no reason not to allow the 140 cm extenders.  And I have to say they would be right--both require only a slight .txt edit to unlock, and no stat editing.

If the 140 cm extenders are banned, it would need to be because they were found to be too good and an agreement was reached, not for anything to do with the method of unlocking them.

I see no problem with making them stock. Let the new ideas flow, stock is pretty generic right now and this might help open it back up with some creative ideas.

the extenders are ok.. I was only speaking for the redbird... with the additions of making a text file, etc it seems to custom imo.. I mean we have no idea of its intention.. it could have meant to weight or spin at completely different values.

I wish this topic would become more official... so are these allowed or not? does the download take away ztecs or not?

I find the Beta motor intriguing. How fast does it spin? Could we modify it so it's like the Snapper II?

I see Modifying parts = custom

either let them be of dont use them

the stock texts dont seem to have much data in them as they use defaults and the weight set in the GMF so you could get away with the beta redbird

if we come to a result I wil edit my AI parts with previews CFZ so its compatable

My thoughts as well.  The 140cm round extender needs to be left as is, 35kg, and the 140cm square extender also needs to be left as is, 5kg.  And the unfinished redbird definitely shouldn't be allowed as a stock part, since you need to make a .txt file for it.

Imma gonna use big bold letters to make this next point.

THE POINT OF STOCK PARTS IS THAT YOU CAN EXCHANGE BOTS WITH OTHER PEOPLE AND THEY WILL WORK ON ANY COMPUTER.

Well, not the only point of stock parts, but it's an important one.

The Snapper II works on any computer, even if it isn't unlocked.  So do the 140cm extenders.  The prototype Redbird doesn't work on other computers if it isn't "unlocked", and neither do the 140cm extenders if you edit their stats (well they'll technically work, but the bot's weight will be wrong).

Since we already allow the Snapper II, which is also an unfinished, unbalanced part like the 140cm extenders, I say we allow the 140cm extenders unless they ("they" here meaning "the square one") prove to be too good, in which case they can be banned by mutual agreement.

I can see sidehammer, hammer and trapper bots abusig the 140cm square extender due to its weight to lenght ratio.
