Ball & Socket Component!
« on: November 12, 2008, 12:10:58 AM »
Phew, finally a thread name change.

I created a component that uses the point-to-point constraint to achieve a ball & socket joint effect. It's kind of spazzy, but have fun with it.

Here's an old video:

Here's the download: http://www.q3k.org/ballsocket.zip

Nice job again, Serge.

I'll check it out and get back.

Trying to think of ways to use this...?

Input is appreciated. :)

Not yet, I'm the one who creates stuff, I'll just leave the creative part of the job to you.

It'll make a perfect flail.
Put this onto your signature if you were part of this crappy fad in '03.

Pretty sweet component.  I've been looking for something like this, I've wanted to build a few replicas that use chain flails, and I can probably use this for that.

SR, that's a good idea. But please let me know how many you can 'link' before it glitches...
If it works for 3-4 (or more) well, then maybe ACAMS could 3dsmax us a single 'Link.gmf', and I'll attach this socket joint to it, so they can be joined/linked.
A mace on the end of these links would be cool...

Thanks.
Input is appreciated. :)

I'll create a model once I get back.
I don't know about you, but for me it spazzes after 2 links connected together.

It's useless for a flail. The thing may work in testing, but the part just stays facing the same way in battle.

The only way to crash the game with this if I try to stack two on a spinning motor. It doesn't crash right away, it happens once it gets up to full spinning speed.

Also, any chance you could make this component more durable?  I broke it easily in the test area, and even stock extenders don't break in there.

Pretty slick work.  Looks like Appolyon can finally have a flail tail.
