Zyro_Falcon's Ironforge Showcase
« on: October 12, 2015, 04:57:56 AM »
Steel 10; I wonder if that much batteries, with their better electotal-to-weight ratio, would do me any good.
Else, maybe I could stick to one 10-amp cell per spin motor and use up the massive amounts of free weight for more dangerous weapon systems and/or more explosive acceleration for both human and AI drivers. I'm keeping within Ironforge's weight limits, too.

I think the uploading of your pictures failed, so I'd re-upload them before we continue on with advice.

Okay, so as you may have guessed, Ironforge is a completely different ballpark to DSL. I'm assuming your bot is a Superheavyweight before I continue.
Firstly, the ol' DSL rule of 1 ant per spin motor doesn't apply here - that was all fixed for Ironforge, so every motor needs it's 'amp' rating fully provided.

Next, on the same lines as Reier, this is all assuming you want to go competitive.
Sorry to say it, but this breaks the realism rules any Ironforge tournament will probably have (unless someone does an unrealistic IF tournament) due to your wheels cutting straight through the motor belts. Check out that 'guide to building styles' again if you need to.
Also, weaponry again, you could probably do with a lot more, especially on a SHW, so consider downgrading the armour somewhat.

I like your style though, I definitely think you're gonna produce some cool stuff.

Heh, thought I could get away with hand waving the belts as angling around the wheels...
No biggie, I can find another way.

Seems Craaig can see my imgur-uploaded images? I took some inspiration from 1997's Planet Of Death; used to play it when I was little.

I can see your images, yes. Which reminds me, I'd recommend cropping them in future, we all know what the botlab looks like, we just need the weight and the bot itself ;)

Yeah actually using just one 10-amp batt per spin motor in ironforge isn't the wisest idea since they have extremely low lifespan. There are situations where you may have to do just that but they die super fast. The larger ones have worse amp-to-kg ratios but they last way longer. You seem to be getting the hang of this pretty quick, keep up the good work :)

Also POD is the bomb I still play that game to this day. You know gog.com has a release that works flawlessly on modern PCs?

Say, I can't get the height slider down low enough for my bots to be invertible using the Mini wheels. Is it possible to achieve it?

Clicking just below the height slider can glitch it into going lower, I believe. I've used Mini wheels on invertible robots before, so it can be done. I think the contact zone, if that's the right term, around the wheels is larger too, if that makes sense?

Excellent! The chassis flattened the way I like it! :claping I've a new bot to work on.
In the meantime, I've drafted a tournament-legal version of my bot, where the belts won't overlap with anything.
And I realised I can't shave a hole in the middle...

You only need 3 diehard batts with maybe an extra duracell or energizer thrown in with that motor setup
that'll free you up 30 kg which is a lot

398g; I had to decrease the weapon blades or it'll tip too much to the front. Hmm...

In Ironforge there is a ballast component that, by the rules of the mod, you can have 4 of without them counting towards your weight limit, so throw your 4 in the back replacing some of the batteries and balance might be improved. You could also put a wedge under some of the overhang as support.

As well as what Craiig said, Id say to use a ninja star, rather than steel blades, as it would end up lasting longer in a battle.

Ballast! I forgot about that.

Here's the next one, with 8 blades per disc, no additional armour, and 399.9kg nominal weight + 50kg ballast at the back.

The Ninja Star is described as having '4 frequency'; I wonder what that means.
Well, tried it; didn't last as long as the Steel Blade clusters.

Ninja stars would not be a good choice

I was always told to use ninja stars rather than steel blades by you lot! I WAS LIED TO!

Anyway, 4 frequency means that it will hit with that amount of damage 4 times, as it has 4 edges.

...Moving on,

learning that Iron Spikes have 4kg/1710HP/560DP compared to a Steel Blade's 5kg/1670HP/360DP, albeit the former having decreased coverage due to only being able to deal damage with their tips, I devised my personal fastest armour-destroying weapon so far. Woohoo!

(And thanks to ballast for balancing the handling!)

Some testing:

I like its streamlined shape zooming about the arena
___________________________________________________________

Addendum: I also learnt Iron Spikes are quite prone to havoking. When they fly off my discs and land on the floor they end up bouncing around. I've had to endure lots of program crashes driving this bot  Perhaps an update to Ironforge could be in order?
___________________________________________________________

Further development! By splitting the upper and lower clusters, I double my 'rate of fire'. It's now effectively a shredder! Please let there be an Ironforge update, please let there be an Ironforge update...

Ironforge is basically done unless 123 pops by and finds any quick stability fixes, and I think having to change any iron spike stats would throw the balance off, so I wouldn't get too hopeful.

Balance, as in, weight balance?
It's only going to take a change of its physical hitbox, right?
I'd suppose savethewhales would know best. He's hanging out over at Robocraft ;)
