out of interest does the online work at all?

No, GameSpy shut down some time ago I believe. You can do online battles through programs that simulate LAN connections like Hamachi or GameRanger but they're unbelievably laggy for anyone aside from the host, hence we run AI tournaments here where your designs are sent in, AIed (so the computer will drive/attack) and battled.

It's pretty fun, you can check out our tournaments in the relevant section, all good fun, or the showcases where we show our latest designs and can ask for help improving said designs.
