I'm no stranger to RA2 but recently I had RA2 on my laptop. the original disk copy after a massive uphill struggle getting it to install the first time
(involving moving individual files onto the drive then running the disk so it didn't crash because the disk was scratched as all f***)
Now I've tried running the download versions and they load up the box and start the black screen then almost instantly it gives me an error warning saying its stopped working.
I updated to windows 8.1 recently and this was after I uninstalled the original disk copy from my laptop. I know I'm being kinda vague about my situation but quite frankly I have no clue what the hell has happened. Help a nerd out?
-
Have you followed the entire installation guide? This is where most people mess up - it's a stickied thread in the Installation Support section (In fact it's here (https://gametechmods.com/forums/index.php?topic=15739.0)). A lot of people try playing direct from the .rar instead of extracting.
-
Im getting the same issue from the disk version though: I did it a second time (the uphill installation method) to get the disk one to work as it did last time but its giving me the exact same issues
-
May well be an issue relating to the OS not liking it - try moving the entire game file to somewhere like the desktop.
-
I'll give that a try once I've extracted the download version
-
ok so now it won't let me extract it...not using Mzip or WinRAR -_-
-
There's nothing wrong the the .rar files - where are you extracting to?
-
mzip said this:
-
I have no idea about Mzip, never used it. If you're downloading the original version of the game (RobotArena2v1.4.rar) you could always try removing the . in v1.4 in case that's confusing it, or even capitalize the RAR while you're at it just to remove all those possibilities.
Like I say though, never used Mzip and these files have always worked fine with both WinRAR and 7zip.
-
ok so got both downloads onto my desktop...but theres no application files in them... quite literally everything else BUT the application files are there
-
Anti-Virus catching you?
-
not getting any anti virus warnings as far as Im aware
-
do you have a working copy of the game on your system? if so you could just attach a copy of it to your response for me to download straight
(heres what in the folder)
-
You're missing a lot more than just the .exe, that looks more like an incomplete extraction or something - I wouldn't be confident sending the rest as I don't even know if you've got all the files in the other folders.
-
literally every folder is empty... -_- I can see all the items to be extracted but mzip doesnt work it seems
-
If you're still using Mzip, try something else. I just re-downloaded and extracted with 7zip and it worked fine.
-
ok so used 7zip and it worked mostly except the application files still not there and bot.4 didn't work apparantly
-
Is the application file even in your .rar?
(see here (https://i.gyazo.com/e9156b8282a4f3f0788375dc27417af8.png))
-
ok did a completely new .rar download, re extracted it and the game works fine now :)
-
Good to hear. :)
-
out of interest does the online work at all?
-
No, GameSpy shut down some time ago I believe. You can do online battles through programs that simulate LAN connections like Hamachi or GameRanger but they're unbelievably laggy for anyone aside from the host, hence we run AI tournaments here where your designs are sent in, AIed (so the computer will drive/attack) and battled.
-
ahhhh ok, thats a shame but then the ai thing sounds cool
-
It's pretty fun, you can check out our tournaments in the relevant section, all good fun, or the showcases where we show our latest designs and can ask for help improving said designs.
Generally if you need to know anything, a good place to start is the Complete Tutorial Index (https://gametechmods.com/forums/index.php?topic=17300).
Otherwise, welcome to GTM and I hope you stick around. :)
