RA2 runs at crawl speed
« on: May 30, 2009, 10:01:18 AM »
After playing a big game like Team Fortress 2, Robot Arena runs at crawl speed - it takes about 10 seconds to navigate to Exit, when you just got onto the Main Menu. The computer is powerful enough to run TF2 on max settings at virtually full FPS all of the time.

The only way to remedy it so far is to restart, ofcourse - But I'm wondering if there is a workaround, or something that could be used that'd bring RA2 back up to full speed without restarting.

Anyone have a clue?

I have the exact problem too, except any game that uses Source also causes it.

Eh. It's probably all Source games then, because all I've played is TF2. (Should update CS:S)

My RA2 used to crawl along as well and I found the issue was 2 many mods on the one copy, I had DSL the RW AI and the AceUplink all crammed onto the one

I think it is because the ram is filled up with the other game. The game might still be running so check the "processes" tab in task manager. Also do you have vista?

Nope.

Then you might as well say "Just not play any decent games before RA2"

Not dissing RA2 or anything, but after all of this time it isn't much more then a 'support' game, something you want to play in your own time, rather then all of the time.

Hey RedLine, I had a similiar thing happend just yesterday, but it was with Garrysmod. I noticed that somehow the hl2.exe was still running, even if the game was shutdown. So I just stopped the process from the CRTL+ALT+DEL process menu.

That's interesting. Next time, I'll check for that, but don't think I saw it all of the times it happened...

Uhoh, there's no HL2.exe after a long time on TF2. Your theory only works for you.. :|

No offense roboman but you dont know hat your talking about - once you terminate a game it is dumped from the RAM (or at least it should).

Redline if HL2.exe isnt still running i dont know what the problem is. Have you tried exiting out of steam?

If you could post your stats that would be more helpful - because its impossible to have 6gb of VRAM.

Well, if 6gb of paging file counts as 6gb of VRAM, then I do.

But whatever. What do you need to know?

Saying what DxDiag comes up with because I'm not exactly 'in touch' with my computer's components..

Processor: AMD Athlon(tm) 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 5200+,  MMX,  3DNow (2 CPUs), ~2.7GHz
OS: Windows XP Professional (5.1, Build 2600) Service Pack 2 (32 bit, yes I need to get 64 bit)
Graphics/Video card: ATI Radeon HD 3800 Series

What ever you do, DO NOT update to service pack 3 for XP. It does more harm than good.

Oh, and don't get Internet Explorer 8 either, it is causes crashes...

I don't plan to. Hell, it took me so long just to get A service pack.
