TST: Mechanical Warfare

You may remember a Thread named "Robot Wars: Extreme Annihilation". Well that name is now dead, as is the game. So we decided to start fresh and create a new game named "TST: Mechanical Warfare", which we think will be MUCH better. The Robots featured in the stock game will ALL be fake(ish) ones we have created. The reason I say Fakeish is that we will be using non-existent ones that are used in Roblox Robot Wars. We are planning on using the Havok engine. (Thats right guys) ;D, a newer version at that. A word of warning. This will be payware, so NO HATE pweese. I am not the one who decided on this. All download packs WILL be free. Open for Ideas.

Repeating what I posted on the old thread:

"Okay, I've been reading through what's been posted on this thread and I felt the need to sign up to the forum and clear up some misunderstandings.

This is likely to change but the currently idea is to have a payware main game for robot combat simulation and blah blah (much like RA2 was). Then, there would be, for example, an add-on pack downloadable for free including Robot Wars robots. On the subject of RW robots, there was never any idea to have just robots still competing - if that had been the case, I wouldn't have been designing plans for Diotoir or Tornado.

I'm not sure what else there is to clear up, although I'd like to point out that any suggestions as to the development and planning of this game will be gratefully received, since being given ideas will help us more in trying to create a game that people will continue to enjoy playing.

One last thing - while development might be slow on this project (baring in mind we all have real lives to lead) I highly doubt development will be completely called off.

So, in summary: we're open for suggestions as to content, features and even the workings of the game."

A non-aesthetic update with the game:

I have been literally scouring around for suitable game platforms, physics engines, 3d modellers and the likes (bare in mind that, right now, I'm not desperate to pay money for these things - no point if there's something going free) and, despite having very little help from people in terms of suggestions as to what to use, I may have found something suitable.

In the opening post of this thread, it was mentioned that the game would be using Havok. No. Just... no. I'm currently toying around with Bullet in terms of physics, but thus far have gotten not very far.

As far as models and components and the likes is concerned with their modelling, Blender is looking promising. Before, I was using gmax (a sort of glitchy and free younger brother for 3ds max) but this is a program more suited to importing and creating content for an existing game, rather than starting one from basics like TST:MW.

So, to sum up the complete rubbish I've just been on about: I'm getting irritated but still persevering; Bullet might be our physics; Blender might be our 3D stuff; and I hope my limited knowledge of Lua will help.

Ah, now... it will be difficult, but not impossible, and I've got no intention of cancelling. Over time, things will change, as I'm sure they do with other similar ideas. Plus, I am but one man - a student, living life outside of a little spark of an idea he had one day. While I intend to finish this project, my commitment to it will not be as frequent as a professional's, and so at times progress will be slow. Very slow.

That is why I asked for suggestions and ideas. When you're taking on the task of developing a game about robotics, it seems that the best place to come to for ideas and tips is a forum about robots and games, and when you're working on the game alone you're grateful for any little help or advice people give.

Also, if I had left advertising for the damned thing in my own hands, I wouldn't have been so 'ooh-get-your-hopes-up' by repeating everything as fact about something which was barely in concept stages. Had I gone into this entirely alone, I wouldn't have said anything in public until I had something to show for it - a working demo of a robot in an arena, for example. And for this, I apologise now. Yes, as you read through this thread you're probably seeing what is turning into another of many hopeless, futile attempts to create a game. For the time being, you might be right, but until we've got some progress to show please bare with us me.

TBH, I think your biting off more than you can chew, Cos you really should of researched and planned way before the thought of getting it started then just going oh im here to make a game
