just completed the pokemon tower and i also went to beat the karate dojo place but i dont know if i should switch out my starter for hitmonchan because of hitmonchan's awesome moveset.

But they're energy punches !

Though how can any fire or electric attack be physical is beyond me, since they're forms of energy.

But yeah I would classify an energy punch as more physical than special. Really, depends of how strong is your punch and how elementally charged it is.

Actually, they are physical post-gen 4. Gen3 and below, all fire, water, and electric attacks were classified as special.

I'd try a tentacruel, it's pretty fast and has a good amount of resistances.

And a whiscash is a good choice aswell
