Yes, very. If not the whole saga, just play HL2, HL2:Ep1 and HL2:Ep2. You will not regret it.

It's the single player mode (there is no multiplayer, well, there's HL2:Deathmatch, but that's just throwing toilets at each other with the gravity gun). I'd say it's on par with Portal 2.

Well obviously the graphics won't be up to today's standards, but HL1 did start it all. Don't bother with Opposing Force. Blue Shift is OK though.
