F-Zero
« on: June 03, 2010, 03:41:17 PM »
Besides being the game which featured the vehicle which inspired my nickname on here (04 Golden Fox, if you must ask), I wondered why there wasn't a thread dedicated to the pretty damn awesome racing game series on this forum.

'tis OK Fotep, me old cooker.
Could I also potentially get a chilled Pepsi Max with the baby?

But Seriously-
On F-Zero GX, I've completed all the Story Missions on Very Hard, except for two. Mission 1 and Mission 7...

Indeed! F-Zero GX is one of the best racers on Gamecube, but it's also bloody hard on the higher difficulties!
The 1st and 7th Missions on "VERY HARD" difficulty still give me nightmares now and then.

My favorite racers were always the Red Gazelle and the Mighty Hurricane (Red Gazelle because I was good with it, and Mighty Hurricane because it looks cool).

I don't think I beat any of the story missions on very hard... I think I beat all but one of them on hard though.

I always liked Beastman and James McCloud. And Phoenix. (although I don't have Phoenix yet)

I love these games, GX especially. I only really use custom machines, but if I had to choose I'd say I would go with Red Gazelle and Hyper Speeder.

Never beat any of the missions on very hard, doing mission 7 on hard took me 9+ hours and almost made me chuck my controller into the TV.

LOL 1 MONTH BUMP

I wanted to say that I just beat Mission 7 on Very Hard today, the last story mission I hadn't beaten on that level. Surprisingly it was no harder than doing the level on Hard.

Has anyone else progressed at all since last month?

It has made appearances on the SNES (F-Zero), N64 (F-Zero X), Gameboy Advance (F-Zero Maximum Velocity  & F-Zero GP Legend), GameCube (F-Zero GX), and the arcade (F-Zero AX).

Maybe because the Wii can also play both?

I tought Game Cube was too old and WII too new to have that happend.

Oh well, I just managed to get my hands on the game but it was the US version so it failed before it even tried to work, now downloading a PAL version but its taking years at the speed of 60kbs, since the game is over 1gb...

The Wii uses faster versions of the same CPU and GPU as the GameCube, so it's able to run GameCube games without emulation.

Super necro bump go!
I've been playing F-Zero X a lot recently. I was looking online, and I found this, a machine editor. I've been remaking machines from Badnik's RP thread, and created, stat wise:

The Enforcer, my creation. Almost identical, just about 7 kilos off.

Blue Hornet, NFX's machine. Due to the editor, I couldn't get it exactly, stat wise. Less grip than the original, but easily the best machine out of the lot.

Static Bat, Badniks machine. Lost some grip, again, to the editor. Sadly, the worst machine of the lot, good acle though.

Speed Shifter, Jonzu's machine. I got lucky with this one, it's basically a dead ringer to Jonzu's. Even funnier, it's the second best machine of the lot, I really like this thing. Jonzu, you may be one creepy SOB, but your machine is good.

Then I got to thinking, how well they perform on a time trial. I chose Silence1. As a control, I used one of the machines the game shipped with(The Great Star, my best machine). Settings were set as far to the right as they could be. I got these times:

As to what happened during the runs:
Enforcer normally took the first lap slow, but during the second lap, left most of the other machines behind.
Static Bat led the pack during the first lap, but was quickly left behind once boost came into play.
Blue Hornet was the best almost every single time. This thing dominated, no other machine could catch up once it really got going.
Speed Shifter was also pretty good. Shocked me when it left the Enforcer in the dust.
Also, anyone want to play F-Zero X on net play?

hmm

Can you do the other 7 or so which were made? would be cool to see this in an actual f-zero game.

Also nice choice of Baba for Jonzu's machine XD
